25.01.2022 The most common question we get is; "Where's the best place to look for whales?" So using Google Earth, we have mocked up a map of what we believe are some of ...the best land-based locations to begin your search. For the sea going folk, book yourself onto a Wildlife Coast Cruises Phillip Island, whale watch...season opens June 8. Please forgive the roughness of the map. #whalesvictoria #citizenscience

25.01.2022 Forget the fairytale 'Princess and the Pea' this is a true life underwater tale of the 'Squid and the Stones'. When getting ready for bed this little Southern Bobtail Squid uses it's tentacles and jets of water to dig itself a sandy bunker. But it's not all smooth sailing as sometimes it finds massive rocks (well big stones for this little squid that was only as big as my fingernail) and it uses its tentacles to promptly move them so can can then sleep like.... a rock. 22.01.2022 The lovable stargazer, a sand assassin which is usually hiding in the sand waiting to ambush passing prey. We found this funky looking fish out in the open during a night dive. It clearly had better things to do than be ogled at by humans so it quickly swam away and into the darkness.

16.01.2022 A night time rodeo with two main differences: 1. It's underwater; and 2. 16.01.2022 Ever seen a cuttlefish have a 'WHAT THE F@$K moment? Enjoy this little video then. Still blows my mind how quickly cuttlefish can change the colour and texture of their skin which is pretty impressive considering they're colour-blind. Apparently it only takes them around 300 milliseconds to change , a clever adaptation to avoid predators, sneak up on prey, attract a mate and communicate. Clearly something scared the living bejesus out of this little cuttle, but it got over it pretty quickly. Thanks John Smith.

15.01.2022 When the deceptive and the deadly meet... It's a fizzer Flatheads like to keep things on the down low. A low profile and camouflaged skin lets them blend in seamlessly to their surroundings to help them avoid predators and pounce on prey. They'll only move at the very last minute if they feel threatened. This one held its nerve even when the deadly Blue-ringed octopus landed on it's head and a land-lubber with a massive camera and lights was in its face. #fish #flathead #deadly #octopus #octonation #cephalopod #uwvideo #wildlifeplanet #earthfocus #savingwaves #oceanlover #naturevideo #scuba #scubadive #dive #discoverocean #800down

15.01.2022 Like the Lorax who spoke for the trees because they have no tongues, we need to speak for the Giant Spider Crabs and encourage the government to introduce a No-Take during their annual aggregration into the shallows where they're vulnerable and moulting and potentially mating (the females can only mate when they've moulted and soft). We've used our voice and it is loud and clear. Can you use yours?

14.01.2022 Loving your babies to death - This is a close up view of the female Pale Octopus with her chandelier-like eggs hanging from the surface of a plastic pipe. You can see to the left of the screen near the end one of her arms gently aerating the eggs. She puts everything she has into these eggs and once they hatch she'll go to octopus heaven, it's the ultimate sacrifice.

03.01.2022 Don't touch the hooman..... Gosh we love these venomous little jewels. Found this Blue-ringed octopus on a night dive as it was out hunting. Decided pretty quickly that underwater housings weren't as tasty as crabs or other crustaceans.

02.01.2022 Nominations are currently open for the Youth Advisory Council for World Oceans Day. It woud be great of there were some Australian nominations and Indigenous voices woud be particularly welcome. If you can spread the word amongst suitable candidates that woud be great.

01.01.2022 What is your dress code for work? Ours is sometimes a tad unconventional and slightly bemusing. And people think filming documentaries is glamorous... This was a new technique we tried to capture a different perspective of swimming with seals when filming for Melbourne Down Under. Thoughts?
