12.01.2022 Dhan" means wealth and "Trayodashi" is the 13th day. As the name implies,Dhanteras occurs on Aso vad 13, the 13th dark day of Aso which is the 13th day of the latter half of the lunar month. This day is considered auspicious for shopping for new utensils, silver and gold. Incidentally, this is also the day when Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the churning of the mighty Ocean (Samudra Manthan). Hence, this day is also regarded as the Dhanvantari Jayanti. Most communities worship the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, by performing puja. Material wealth in the form of gold jewelry and money (or old coins/Diamonds) are often used to represent wealth in these worship ceremonies. Gujaratis believe money spent on this day will bring prosperity to their family and home during the coming year.

10.01.2022 The festive season has begun!!!....But do we know the significance of this day??? Diwali, being the major Hindu festival, is celebrated over a period of five-Eight days, which commences on the new moon day, which ends in the month of Ashwin, or the beginning of the Kartika month. Incidentally, this system is followed among Hindus all over the world! All of the days, with the exception of Diwali, are named as per their designation in the Hindu almanac. It begins on the 12th da...y[Vasu Baras] of the dark half of Ashwin and ends on the 5th day[Labh Pancham] of the bright half of Kartika. Today is the 12th day of the dark half of Ashwin/Aaso. This day is called Vasu Baras.Vasu" means cow and "Baras" implies the 12th day. On this day of Vasu Baras, both the cow and calf are worshipped. The "Go Mata" (literally, the "Cow Mother") is a sacred animal in Hindu tradition. It has been likened to the Kamadhenu (the divine Cow who grants all wishes). Cow worship is considered very auspicious in our country. Today is also known as Vagh Baras. "Vagh" also means "tiger" in Gujarati. But Vagh here refers to repaying one's financial debts. Therefore people clear their account ledgers (khata) today and do not enter into new transactions using new ledgers until after Labh Pancham. On this day as part of the ritual they worship the cow and calf and this vrat is known as the Nandini Vrat in some Dhodia tribal villages in Gujarat in great fashion. Vagh baras is celebrated in a unique fashion inDhodia villages where some men colour themselves in stripes representing the Vagh and others as plain white or other colours denoting cattle. The tiger chases the cattle. Finally, at the end of the sport, the village inhabitants eat food together at a common place and celebrate. Also it is widely believed that Shri Vallabha who was an incarnation of Lord Dattatreya left the earth on this day. Hence it is also celebrated as Guru Dwadashi in some places.
