24.01.2022 Real talkthere is no such thing as ‘ugly’ food. There’s only food that doesn't rise to our manufactured standards of what vegetables or fruit should look like. In a blog by our fab Produce Packer Malaika, we lay out why seconds produce (tomatoes that the supermarkets have deemed "too red," for example) need to be put first. And we're not talking about buying The Odd Bunch. Read about how we're supporting seconds produce, and why you should too. ... https://melbournefoodhub.org.au//here-are-some-benefits-o/ #localfood #sustainablefood #GrowSourceEat #NotTheOddBunch

14.01.2022 Welcome! Did you know that we rescue seconds produce from participating farms and donate them to local hunger relief organisations - one of which is the incredible Lentil As Anything! MFH works closely with Lentil As Anything Thornbury to rescue seconds produce, items that would otherwise head to the compost bin, and turn it into delicious + nutritious vegan meals that are offered for pay as you feel prices. This week we rescued over 170 kilos of produce from #cafrescoorg...anics! We wouldn’t be able to do this work without the support of our parcel subscribers and our volunteers, THANK YOU! Pop into Lentil for a meal or coffee and see what they’re all about! #localfood #melbourne #lentilasanything #community

There's no educational post that can't be made better by chickens.... #chicken #backyardchickens #foodincommon #foodwaste

11.01.2022 This week our Grow Source Eat parcels got even more local than usual! These limes are from Stephen, a passionate urban grower who reached out to us because he's got an abundance of limes. A decade ago he espaliered 5 citrus trees (that is, trained to grow flat against a wall) in the tiny backyard of his terrace house, right in Melbourne. He's committed to growing them right, feeding them compost and staying away from chemical sprays. #GrowSourceEat

11.01.2022 Let’s talk about packaging! Ideally, we wouldn’t use any disposable packaging. However, on hot days we need to keep things cool so we use compostable bags, like these handy produce bags. They break down easily in home compost bins and keep our salads and strawberries fresh so that they last longer and taste great! A reminder to subscribers that we re-use our boxes so don’t forget to return them to your collection point or BYOB (bring your own bag!) ... #compostable #veggiebox #melbourne
