23.01.2022 REPOST from Wani As most of us are now aware, yesterday evening police descended on the government housing commissions in Flemington, Kensington and North Melb...ourne and shut down every building block. No warning was given, and it’s caused mass confusion not only to those living in the buildings, their families who were stuck outside, but also everyone trying to coordinate action to support them. No one is allowed to leave or enter the building irrespective of the reason. You can imagine how traumatic this has been for those insides. These are buildings made up of primarily Black and Brown folk from migrant backgrounds. Most are refugees, ex-detainees who’ve fled experiences of heavy securitisation, militarisation and policing only to be placed under familiar circumstances. Others born into those buildings have/are constantly already being over-policed, harassed and abused by the state. Amongst these, many don’t speak English and had/still have no idea what’s happening inside their own buildings and what to make of it. These are already marginalised and oppressed communities with a history of violent policing. There’s been little information available, and the information that has been available has only been presented in English, and in an incredibly inaccessible manner so folk haven’t and aren’t receiving it. Myself along with others are in communication with some residents from North Melbourne, Kensington and Flemington flats trying to work out how to accurately communicate information to the residents as well as communicate what they say they need back to the general public. We’re aware there are multiple things happening at once and also aware that residents will have varying needs. So in thinking of that, we’re asking for others who know folk inside the buildings to help us communicate cohesive collective messages. We have some folk that can translate, we’re also waiting to hear about what’s being done re-mutual Aid, and in terms of where people can contact for varying help, please let us know in the comments and help us spread this to all those that need to know, especially if you have access to folk inside the buildings that we might not know. We’ve been receiving calls from folk panicking assuming police are there because there’s been a stabbing or fighting.

23.01.2022 GAME POSTPONED Our round 7 game against the Uni Hill Eagles FC has been postponed this weekend due to clashing with Richard’s funeral taking place on the same day (11/05). The game has been rescheduled to be played in the catch up round, Saturday the 8th of June. We thank Football Victoria and the Uni Hill Eagles for their understanding and compassion to facilitate this for us. We look forward to everyone getting out to support us during that game as we pay tribute to our brother Richard.

19.01.2022 SL5N | ROUND FIVE UPDATE It is with great disappointment that we have just been informed our Round 5 fixture against the Thomastown Raiders, will not go ahead today due to our opposition forfeiting the fixture. Despite this unfortunate news at such late notice, we still will be using the occasion today to raise further funds for Richard's family to support with any associated medical / funeral expenses and plan to have an intra-club game today kicking off at 2PM. ... We will now be moving our memorial match for Richard Arow forward to our next home game, which will be against the Uni Hill Eagles FC on Saturday the 11th of May. Please get down on the day to support! #RIPRichard #teamanbessa #MLSC

02.01.2022 SL5N | ROUND FIVE Please join us at our home game tomorrow afternoon as we commemorate the life of our brother Richard Arow after he tragically passed away last Friday. Richard last played with us during the 2012 season, but he has been an active member of our community over the last 12 years, playing in the end of year soccer tournaments with a number of our current and past players. He also represented the Ethio-Australia team that participated in the 2013 ESFNA 31st Annual... Soccer Tournament in Washington DC. We will be using the occasion to raise further funds for his family to support with any associated medical / funeral expenses. There will be a minute silence held before both the senior and reserves games, while the players will all be wearing black armbands. If you are unable to attend on the day but would like to donate, please let us know and we can put you in contact with family members who are organising a gofundme campaign. Hope to see all the Melbourne Lions family there tomorrow to say goodbye and cheer the boys on to victory! : Thomastown Raiders : Saturday 27th of April : Maribyrnong Reserve, Maribyrnong : Reserves 1PM/Seniors 3PM #RIPRichard #teamanbessa #MLSC
