24.01.2022 A common experience when transitioning from ‘drag the pole’ technique to applying some ‘push’ ... we lose coordination and rhythm. A bit of homework is now required to practice an effective arm swing and 7 days reflection on lesson one and the skills learnt to date .
23.01.2022 MS video pre Nordic Walking. The impact of Multiple Sclerosis (ms) can impact all body posture, muscle performance, and create new new movements not ideal to managing the illness. Here we see a gentleman prior to his first Nordic Walking session with significant left lean into his left crutch that is taking full weight along with a hitch right hip that promotes a right leg flick/swing to develop a walking pattern . You may also notice the stress placed through the neck to raise the head and help exert postural power and control >>> exhausting mobility pattern that reinforces negative body movements.
23.01.2022 Peter lives with Parkinson’s disease and lesson two is taking on hills in Melbourne City . Our focus is to maintain muscle strength , coordination , and balance... but also as we realised yesterday Peter also likes the speed Nordic Walkung offers to over take slow pedestrians
21.01.2022 Hannah has been steadily improving her endurance, balance, and awareness of her abilities with a regular specialised Nordic walking addressing her multiple sclerosis. Inner city Melbourne has some remarkable walking experiences on a early Saturday morning. Not only an important part of her exercise and relaxation , but also helps her strength to maintain employment.

20.01.2022 What did New Years bring our Warragul Nordi Walker group ... 2 new pace makers. Subsequently cardiac rehab programs are now the flavour of the month and Nordic Walking is a fantastic option !
20.01.2022 Heather’s first lesson (part A)... pole drag and coordination . Coordination sounds like a simple skill , all we need to do to walk well is swing our left arm forward when our right leg moves forward, not always that easy especially when we have poles attached. This video highlights dragging the pole only while working on the most important skill , coordination and arm swing affectionately to as the Tick Tock movement. Heather hopes to strengthen her knees and posture , let’s enjoy the freedom Nordic walking brings to rehab our body
20.01.2022 Always great to have a direct comparison of how you walk using your current gait aid prior to your first Nordic Walking lesson. Looking forward to the exciting months to come with this spinal cord injury client
19.01.2022 Almost Nordic baby pushing , not quite but a pretty good arm work out while you walk or run
19.01.2022 Following a horse riding fall and subsequent incomplete spinal cord fracture we are now introducing Nordic Walking as therapy modality to engage core and teach the body correct muscle activation . Moving forward weekly interventions to develop posture , coordination , and core activation
19.01.2022 The Finns have figured it out , walking and moving your body take some deliberate effort but have great healthy outcomes
13.01.2022 Finland is the happiest country in the world ... does it have something to do with Nordic Walking (scene 1 of this video )?
12.01.2022 Glen lives with low vision (albinism) and finds it a challenge to exercise safely to a level that gets his heart into a cardio zone . It has taken time to learn coordination and develop endurance and skill... but here he is demonstrating how he follows the white line of the cricket field with a ‘normal’ walk vs the faster ‘extended reach’ technique . Nordic walking poles offer the perfect workout for Glen while providing some reassurance regarding the terrain.
12.01.2022 Some reasons why Nordic Walking literally kicks butt
11.01.2022 Nice soggy Melbourne morning for a first ever Nordic Walking lesson and we are already learning the differences between paw control on wet grass vs spikes ... noisey morning when you are on footpath
11.01.2022 Everyone is practising their social distancing and other personal protection this morning. One on one class this morning keeping one and a bit poles (or light sabers) from your buddy.
11.01.2022 The great thing about Nordic Walking... you can wear a mask, you can practise social distance, you can still have really effective exercise !!
10.01.2022 Back in action after 6 weeks break. Steve lives with complex diabetes and other comorbidities, Nordic walking is the perfect rehab solution to support posture, glucose management, but most importantly support to walk more steps daily. This weeks challenge is to walk today’s 2km track daily and measure performance onhis new i watch
10.01.2022 Grandparents looking for a way to bond in a healthy way with Grandkids?? Maybe time to try Nordic Walking Although pole size and technique might not be perfect, our now youngest client (5 years old) had a blast walking 3 km with his granny who has painful arthritic knees and is still learning the benefits of Nordic Walking. Never too old or young to develop a sense of good posture, coordination, and outdoor activity .
09.01.2022 Just like running , how many of us are taught how to walk and have someone analyse our motor mechanics ? Some great tips in this article on not only how to jog or run more efficiently , but also many considerations on how to improve your walking ... makes a lot of sense to Nordic walking fans
09.01.2022 A relatively simple idea that could significantly improve the mobility of people living with Parkinson's Disease. Look forward to more research on the vibrating walking stick.
08.01.2022 MS Nordic walking session 1. Previous video should tremendous reliance on a left crutch to mobilise with significant left lean from the upper body and right leg flick. Improvements noted immediately through improved hand position, shoulder placement, more ergonomic arm swing.
08.01.2022 A few weeks into our functional mobility program to help develop gait, posture, endurance, and awareness with amazing progress for our client living with moderate multiple sclerosis. Our client is standing taller, vastly reduced right leg swing, vastly reduced lean to the left, steady rhythm , great coordination ... also developing the confidence to try and little bend at the knee which seems to positively resonate with his moderate multiple sclerosis
06.01.2022 Multiple Sclerosis (ms) mobility pre Nordic Walking. MS is a progressive neurological illness that left to itself can significantly Impsired and distort functional movement patterns. Here we see this gentleman with full body weight leaning into his left crutch with excessive left lean. Note right hip hitch to promote a leg flick where power is generated from activating neck and upper body muscles. See the impact of Nordic Walking next
06.01.2022 Walking correctly can never be taken for granted . Several weeks into our Notdic Walking program to re learn how to use specific muscles correctly and engage posture requires significant concentration. Spinal cord rehab is a whole other level of rehab technique. Our client has very weak hip muscles in conjunction with numerous other concerns with a preference to walk with feet following a single imaginary line (leads to very reduced centre of balance ) . Today we are focussing on seeing the light between the knees and widening his base of support using two support canes to supplement his developing Nordic Walking confidence and technique.
