20.01.2022 This hive is almost ready for harvest, but not quite there. We won't be able to check it for another few weeks, so to make sure the bees won't run out of space we've given them some of their stickies from a previous harvest. The hive is towering over the zucchinis now! #growyourown #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #backyardbees #easternsuburbsbees #blackburnnorth #bees #suburbanbees

19.01.2022 These bees are settling in nicely into their new forever home - a 4,000sqm property in Blackburn! With an abundance of native trees, a creek nearby as well as a fresh new veggie patch, these bees are going to be spoilt for choice. #beelife #blackburnbees #backyardbeekeeping #backyardbees #easternsuburbsbees #dowhatyoulove

18.01.2022 What do you get when you have delicious local honey crossed with a @thermomixaus presenter / amazing person / home cook extraordinaire? All kinds of yummy things! But this time, Moira of @ducksback.move.grow.cook has "just whipped up" this incredible honeycomb hedgehog slice! YUM!!... That's definitely a huge step up from the standard honey joy... (Of course, the kids always like a honey joy!) #dowhatyoulove #madewithhoney #honeycomb #thermomixandhoney #keepitlocal #amazingfriends #honey #easternsuburbshoney #honey #cookingwithhoney

13.01.2022 The first warm day in a while meant it was the perfect time for a backyard hive check. Our home apiary looks to have yielded between 50-65kg for today's harvest, looks like tomorrow will be a day with the spinner! #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #backyardbees #backyardhives #summerharvest #honeyharvesting #honey #easternsuburbshoney #easternsuburbsbees

13.01.2022 It's creamed honey time! Honey harvested from our Forest Hill hives always tastes amazing, but this year the honey has crystallised a LOT faster than in previous years. There's nothing wrong with that of course - it's what naturally happens with raw untreated honey, but many people prefer their honey runny! So this year, with the generous help of Ben from @bensbeesau we're making this crystallised honey into creamed honey! It will take four days of creaming to get it just rig...ht, but it will be worth every minute - I look forward to the final product soon! #dowhatyoulove #creamedhoney #backyardhoney #doityourself #workingwithfriends #foresthillhives #easternsuburbsbees

12.01.2022 In a lush garden full of fruit trees, herbs, flowers and roses, these bees have hit the jackpot. Bees thrive in a suburban environment. Beehives located in cities produce healthier and more productivebees. The reason is that urban bees have access to greater biodiversity, resulting in a more varied diet and stronger immune systems. Win!... #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #urbanbees #suburbanbeekeeping #beefriendlygardens #beeswithbenefits #backyardbees #easternsuburbsbees #blackburnbees

12.01.2022 Harvesting and processing within hours makes the room smell amazing! These frames were harvested only a few hours ago, and now the scent of Forest Hill honey wafting through the house is making the kids hungry - luckily it wasn't long before they were able to taste this batch - tastes amazing! Here you can see the removal of the capping, saving the wax for processing later on, and preparing the honey for spinning. Yum! Once this lot was done, I cleaned all the equipment and s...tarted again, this time for a first-time harvest at our Glen Waverley site - we can't wait to try it. #spinningiswinning #backyardbeekeeping #beeswithbenefits #urbanbeekeeping #easternsuburbshoney #easternsuburbsbees #dowhatyoulove

12.01.2022 On a glorious almost-Spring day, we visited half a dozen of our favourite hive hosts. Zofia has the best garden in Mount Waverley, and the bees are loving her flowering broad beans. Zofia uses a tomato truss to hold the broad beans straight, and each truss is reinforced with two star pickets. The wind won't be knocking these over in a hurry! #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #urbanbees #backyardhoney #springtime #growyourownfood #mountwaverley

12.01.2022 Sylvia & David have been hosting hives in their Glen Waverley back yard for almost a year now, and we're all super-happy to enjoy the first harvest! Sylvia has declared the honey to be the best she’s ever tasted (although she accepts there may be some unconscious bias), with honey that is sweet and light, yet thick with displaying lingering floral notes. Yum! #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #backyardhoney #glenwaverleyhoney #backyardbees

10.01.2022 It's that last harvest of the season that seems extra special... #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #beehives #urbanbeekeeper #easternsuburbsbees #vermonthoney #backyardbees

10.01.2022 Our bees are feasting on kale, which we've allowed to go to seed. Why? Because we know how much the bees love it! #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #backyardbees #beefriendlygardens #beefriendlyplants #bees

08.01.2022 A colony of bees can visit up to 50 million flowers each day, with as many as 60,000 bees in each colony. No wonder we all the phrase "busy bees!"

04.01.2022 It's a beautiful day for checking hives, and this colony in Blackburn North is the first to get a new box! We've re-used their frames from last season which were deep-frozen after harvest to keep any potential bugs at bay. #dowhatyoulove #backyardbeekeeping #bees #springbees #beesinaction #urbanbees #blackburnnorth

02.01.2022 There's something so very peaceful about this hive location. We often see rabbits and the occasional roo, despite being less than 20 minutes from our eastern suburbs home. And this is one place we don't need to worry about leaving water out for the bees! #lovewhatyoudo #bees #warrandytesouth #letsdothesplits #beekeeping #beekeepinglife
