11.01.2022 Role of Vitamin B3 in skin cancer prevention- We are all aware of the harmful effects of UV radiation in the causation of skin cancers. Now it has been confirmed that vitamin B3 (also known as nicotinamide) has been proved to reduce the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and some precancerous varieties as well). A research article published in the New England Journal of Medicine http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1506...197#t=article has confirmed that over a 12 month period, the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers were reduced by 23% in the group offered Vitamin B3 as a supplement. While the supplement has been recommended for people with multiple skin cancers, the rest of the population can increase dietary intake of Vitamin B3 which is rich in salmon, tuna, lean pork and beef, chicken, peanuts, mushroom, cottage cheese and if anyone likes- Vegemite as well! Hope all are having a great long weekend. Krish
