Issued at 10:38 pm Saturday, 28 November 2020. GUSTY WINDS ABOUT THE RANGES OVERNIGHT, EASING SUNDAY. Weather Situation: A low-pressure trough over inland Australia is progressing eastwards with an embedded low pressure system deepening early Sunday. DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are expected to develop over Alpine areas (above 1200 metres) across the east on Saturday night and early Sunday. Winds are then expected to ease late Sunday morning and through the afternoon once the low clears the Gippsland coast. DAMAGING SOUTH to SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 40 to 60km/h with peak gusts of up to 90km/h are possible about elevated terrain (above 400m) of western and central districts briefly from around 5am on Sunday morning as a change moves over the state. Winds are expected to ease below warning threshold rapidly following the passage of the change, with the risk becoming negligible after 9am. DAMAGING SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS with peak gusts around 100 km/h are also a risk about the East Gippsland coast from around dawn Sunday, easing in the afternoon. Locations which may be affected include Ararat, Castlemaine, Kyneton, Ballarat, Daylesford, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek.

20.01.2022 - A TROUGH TO GENERATE THUNDERSTORMS FOR VICTORIA - A low-pressure trough is expected to drift across Victoria today, generating showers and storms in the south and east, together with isolated thunderstorm activity. These storms will tend to ramp up in the north and east this afternoon and evening. ... As we see from Nick’s Thunderstorm Forecast severe storms are considered possible in the north and east today, mostly this afternoon and tonight. The trough is expected to spin up into a low-pressure cell that will be situated over central Victoria tonight and then move off the east coast tomorrow. MAJOR FLOODING IS POSSIBLE AT TRARALGON TOWN OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING - The Traralgon Creek at Traralgon is currently below the minor flood level. Renewed rapid river level rises are expected from overnight Friday with minor to moderate flooding expected to develop in the early hours of Saturday. Major flooding is possible from Saturday morning. - Rain is currently falling with 5 to 10 mm since 6:00 pm Friday. Widespread totals of 40-60mm are expected around the Traralgon Creek catchment, with isolated heavier falls of up to 100mm (mainly about higher peaks).
