21.01.2022 With restrictions easing in WA, Australia’s first track race since the COVID-19 lockdown was held in Perth on Friday (26 June). 22-year-old Matt Ramsden reveale...d he has progressed significantly clocking a 34 seconds PB over 5000m in the only event on the program. Ramsden clocked 13:27.53 to move to #26 Australian all-time. He also looked in striking range of the #Tokyo2020 Olympic standard of 13:13.50. Second was Matt Smith (#812 in photo) 14:18.42. Two juniors dipped under 15 minutes - Luke Shaw (#437)14:41.64 and Jaco Jansen van Rensburg (#257) 14:52.80. The first 12 athletes were under 15 minutes. Primarily a 1500m athlete, Ramsden’s form over the longer distance maybe a surprise, however he has always been more of a 1500m+ athlete than an 800/1500m type. When he competed at the 2016 World U20 Championships he raced the 1500m (6th) and 5000m. After missing selection in the Australian team for the 2019 World Cross Country by just 7 seconds, he was given a late call up to the team and placed an outstanding 39th the second Aussie in the race. In 2021 he would be eyeing off selection at either the World Cross Country or World Indoors, in addition to the Olympics (at 1500m or 5000m).

01.01.2022 Just a little announcement about another time my work & running lives collide Natasha Fitzmaurice, a great writer for kids & a keen parkrunner, has written So...nia O'Sullivan's inspirational life story for kids! It's a really great book - I think kids of 9+ who like any kind of sport would love it, plus it's a great read for athletics fans who'd like to relive all the great moments. I was Natasha's editor on this and I loved working on it and reading it - it gave me an excuse to look at great race videos & photos while at work . Natasha & I would like to really thank Sonia for all her help & input, and thank Eoin Coveney for the fab cover.
