25.01.2022 As an inclusive social badminton club, we are here to support the wider community in the fight against COVID-19. We have temporarily stopped our sessions to avoid the transmission of the virus in our club in the hopes of slowing down the spread of the disease. We would like to encourage everyone to follow strict social distancing and hygiene practices. As a club, let us be the one to start to #SmashCorona . We have health care specialists in our club. 12.01.2022 To our members and community, As part of our duty of care to you and the general public, as an Executive Team, we have made the decision to suspend play for this week due to the evolving Covid-19 situation. This decision is based on the following most recent advice from leading medical officials including the WHO (World Health Organisation): 1. Flattening the Curve - We need to flatten the rapid rise of cases and potential deaths. Slowing down the infection rate early can h...alf the potential death rate, and free up much needed hospital and intensive care beds. If we were to play, someone could inadvertently infect others and not know. 2. A large number for people aged between 30-40 with no obvious risk factors are dying from Covid-19 (NOT just the elderly) 3. And most importantly - Social Distancing, which mathematical modelling shows is the only way to slow down the pandemic. Avoiding physical contact and places where people meet (ie our playing sessions) can help to control this. The current government policy is to wait until the infection numbers go up before extending bans further. This has not been an easy decision however the health and safety of our members and community remain our number one priority. Play is therefore cancelled for this week (including Thursday and Sunday Sessions) and also Tuesday next week. Once we have more information, then we can decide on extending the non-play period. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we work through the evolving situation. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or another committee member if you have any questions or concerns. Stay safe and take care. Ua President - Melbourne Smashers Badminton Club
