20.01.2022 COOKIE Cookie is a 1 year old domestic medium hair cat who after venturing outside one day came home limping on his right hind limb. Radiographs were taken by Cookie’s local veterinary clinic - Healesville Veterinary clinic which showed that he had unfortunately dislocated part of his right ankle joint. Cookie was then referred to our surgery department for our Specialist Surgeon, Dr Sonya Wasik to asses. This injury would have been very painful for Cookie but this didn’t ...stop him from giving us purrs and cuddles when he arrived at the clinic. After being examined by Dr Wasik it was confirmed that Cookie required a partial tarsal arthrodesis to fix his dislocated ankle joint. A partial tarsal arthrodesis is a surgical fusion of the lower levels of the ankle joint which is achieved via the placement of a bone plate and screws. The surgery went well and after staying in hospital overnight, Cookie had recovered well enough to go home the next day. Although we would’ve happily kept him in hospital longer for cuddles! He also received some special bandage art from the surgery nurses! We hope Cookie’s recovery from his major orthopaedic surgery continues to be smooth. We look forward to seeing this smoochy boy at his next check up. #mvsc #melbvetspec #veterinaryspecialists #veterinarysurgery #veterinaryspecialistsurgery #dmh #domesticmediumhair #domesticmediumhaircat #domesticmediumhairsofinstagram #cat #catsofinstagram #gingercat #gingercatsofinstagram

09.01.2022 ICECREAM Icecream is a 1 year old domestic shorthair who was referred to our Internal Medicine team recently by @rspca_vic Cheeky Icecream had been found playing with a disposable face mask, the worry set in when his owner noticed that the face mask had been chewed on and that the ear loops and part of the wire where missing.... Icecream was taken to his local clinic where abdominal radiographs were taken and showed the missing strand of wire in the stomach. Icecream was then referred to our Internal Medicine team where endoscopic removal was performed by Dr Darren Merrett. The two ear loops and several pieces of the mask including the 2cm piece of wire was removed. The retrieved material matched up with the defects on the chewed face mask. The procedure was a success and Icecream recovered well. We wish beautiful Icecream all the best and we hope that he stays out of mischief from now on! #mvsc #melbvet #melbvetspecialist #internalmedicine #veterinaryinternalmedicine #endoscopy #veterinaryendoscopy #gingercat #gingercatsofinstagram #dsh #dshcat #dshofinstagram #cat #catsofinstagram #gingerkitty #kittysofinstagram

02.01.2022 BUTTERS Butters is an 8yo female pug was in for a checkup following airway surgery 2 weeks ago. She was very excited to see everyone again and she was sporting her new soft cone that she had to wear to stop her scratching her nasal stitches out. Butters mum explored several styles of cones before finding one that Butters was happy to wear! Butters was quite selective about her cone, a bit like goldilocks... after her owners tried the plastic variety which Butters though...t was too hard and she did not like the inflatable variety but her mum final found the one that was just right. We are pleased she is now breathing easily and recovering well. #mvsc #melbvet #melbvetspecialist #veterinarysurgery #veterinarysurgeon #veterinaryspecialists #boassurgery #boassurgeryrecovery #boasofinstagram #pug #pugsofinstagram #pugstagram #puglife #puglove #cutepug #cheekypug
