15.01.2022 There is a common misconception where a photo is no good if your baby doesn't smile. On the very rare occasion I have cheeky monkeys like little Joshua here. He refused to smile for me in his sitters session. Not even ONCE! It's not that he's not a happy baby. It's just that he decided that I was very interesting, as I jumped around like a silly clown trying every trick in the book to get a reaction from him. So was my studio, as he looked around endlessly to plan ...his exit route. Joshua's final gallery of images were absolutely beautiful, and not a smile in sight. Just his gorgeous puppy fat! An interesting food for thought... Smiling for the camera is potentially not a learned behaviour. But instinctive or hereditary?? Joshua's Dad has been to see me for both of his bubba's newborn sessions and.. you guessed it. He's not a smiler. Whether he thinks it doesn't suit him. Or whether he doesn't feel the need to react to the camera with a smile. Who knows.. Either way, super cute photos.. :) See more

12.01.2022 Since simplifying the way I photograph newborns, I have never been happier. At the end of last year I injured my back quite severely. Which led me to re-assess what I was doing on a daily basis. And how the terrible posture I was using in the studio was doing long term damage to my back, my nervous system and as a result my overall mental and physical health. I decided to photograph babies in a way that I would like my baby captured. Pure, simple, no distracting props. Shooting like this has allowed me to concentrate on the tiny features of the baby and any unique characteristics. The connections between family members. True, organic memories that count.
