08.01.2022 Have your books gotten into a mess? Here are our top tips for getting back on top of things: 1. Simplify your bank accounts. The most common way for books to get in a mess is by using multiple bank accounts and mixing up personal and business income and expenses. We recommend keeping business and personal transactions separate - this avoids confusion and ensures nothing is missed. 2. Use good accounting software with automated bank feeds. Modern accounting software is easy t...o use and will save you a lot of time. Have a look at Xero, Quickbooks and MYOB cloud based accounting which can be accessed online. Data is easily shared with your accountant. And, it's not expensive. 3. Keep your data up to date. Five minutes with a cup of coffee every morning on your phone or tablet is much more relaxing than staying up till midnight the night before the BAS is due. 4. Ask you accountant for help. When things seem confusing your accountant can give you assistance or advice on the best way forward. Apart from peace of mind, you will reduce time spent on the paperwork, and gain the ability to run regular up-to-date reports to help you stay in control. 08.01.2022 Need an ABN? Don't get caught! Use the ABR Government website at abr.gov.au to apply for your ABN - and note this DOES NOT COST ANYTHING. We have seen several clients apply through various websites which appear as top google hits but charge a service or application fee. Do not click on paid ads for ABN registration - they are taking advantage and charging a fee when you can do it yourself for free.
