15.01.2022 Midwifery is a noisy job. Women scream, partners shout, machines bleep, feet run on the corridors, water splashes, paperwork rustles And the clip clop of a hea...rtbeat punctuates the minutes. We aim for peace but birth is a cacophony of sounds. A melody perhaps. The music of birth. Culminating in the sweetest sound. But sometimes babies slip into this world. Silent and sleeping. Sometimes the room waits chilled. Words unspoken. Hearts barely beating as they wait. For the inevitable silence. Hoping against all hope that a beautiful cry will rend the still air. Instead the silence in broken only by tears and a mother’s lament. Ours is a vocal job. We offer encouragement. Urging, come on push you can do it It will be so worthwhile You'll be so proud. Cheer-leaders, personal trainers, eternal optimists. We hold her hand, guide her way. To a joyful conclusion. But sometimes mothers labour with broken dreams. Our love and care cannot heal their pain. Sometimes we carry the mum to the edge of the abyss, a place we cannot follow and soft words ring hollow. Then midwifery is a painful job. We quietly care. Careful not to intrude but anxious to do what we can. Aware that these precious moments are all they have. A few cuddles, photos, footprints. Robbed of a lifetime of memories we cram in what we can. As heart’s break and sorrow consumes all. A sleeping angel is cradled in shaking arms. And then we leave this place on the longest drive home. With shattered hearts and heavy shoulders. We would take their pain with us if we could. Preterm birth, sepsis, PET, abruption, undiagnosed abnormality, often hidden. And sometimes no reason, no explanation. Unexpected quiet. A light snuffed out without warning. And we return the next day, weary and worn. Questioning ourselves. Questioning our skills. Just questioning why? Why? Then we wipe our eyes, replace our smiles and take a deep breath . Cheerfully we walk into another story, another day. Author of poem: Katherine Mabey Today marks the start of Baby Loss Awareness Week 2020. This week is a special opportunity to remember the lives of babies lost in pregnancy, or soon after birth. A cause extremely close to my heart both professionally and personally; I’ll be posting regularly throughout this week to mark such an important and devastating subject

13.01.2022 I learnt something new yesterday and wanted to share it with you..... Who has put essential oils in their belly button before? Go on..... you know you have ... It's called the Pechoti Method and it refers to an Ayurvedic approach whereby oils are dropped into the belly button. It's big in the Cannabis community apparently! The name Pechoti comes from the Pechoti gland which resides behind the belly button and houses more than 72,000 veins and millions of nerves. This gland remains in existence once the umbilical cord is cut and continues to be a superhighway of nerve connectivity and blood supply to the rest of the body. So interesting! The belly button is located in our center of gravity. It sits over your intestines, major lymph nodes and blood vessels. Its also right near your vagus nerve which is responsible for the rest and digest functions of your body. Theres no muscle behind your navel which makes it the perfect access point to what's happening inside your abdomen, particularly if gut dysbiosis or dysfunction is at play. Oils such as DigestZen, Lemon, Lemongrass, Peppermint and Oregano (all diluted) would be good options to support gut health with this method. The rest of your body connects to the belly button via connective tissue and it's also the entry point for the major energy center - your solar plexus, the source of our personal power. Navels are super reflexology points that stimulate your whole body. I know for myself that I am exceptionally sensitive to having my belly button touched and it takes all my might to sit still and let someone do that to me By stimulating your belly button, you send vital life force to all parts of the body which reinvigorates us on all levels and incorporating essential oils allows us to access and support nearly all systems of the body from one tiny location. Belly stimulation also helps pump nutrients, toxins, waste, lymph and blood in the abdomen which helps your systems stay clear and flowing. It warms your abdomen which increases immune function, relaxes muscles and fascia which in turn calms and helps you breathe more deeply sending more oxygen to your body and brain. The gastrointestinal tract also contains a whole heap of cannabinoid receptors which makes the Petochi Method really well suited for using essential oils such as Copaiba, Black Pepper, Ylang Ylang and Turmeric which support and activate the endocannabinoid system. Activating our endocannabinoid system means in turn supporting our central nervous system, neurological pathways and brain function, endocrine system and gastrointestinal system. I am super curious to give this method of application a go, maybe you'll join me and we can compare notes?? It's really important that we dilute essential oils when using this approach ok so nothing neat please! Now go forth and love thy belly button

02.01.2022 Last night I cleaned my Washing Machine As a part of the Spring Cleaning Challenge. Being a mother of 5 children and married to a farmer means that my poor washing machine gets a hammering! And unfortunately I do not get around to clean it as often as I should! Unfortunately your washing machine is a breeding ground for all sorts of mould, mildew & soap scum. Some handy tips to help keep your washing machine clean include: - trying not to use too much washing powder as it le...aves behind more soap scum. - leaving your washing machine door open in between uses to let it air out... this will slow down the mould build up & prevent any nasty smells from developing - wipe down your washing machine weekly with vinegar, tea tree & grapefruit (as noted in the video) - give your washing machine a deep clean every month or so, or when needed. The deep clean noted at the end of the video should be completed in two different cycles as when combined will cancel each other out. (Run your washing machine once with the washing sofa and then do another cycle with the vinegar & essential oils). Note: you can replace the tea tree with lemon oil if you prefer.... Enjoy and be sure to send me some after pics of your squeaky clean washing machines
02.01.2022 Lots and lots of freebies
02.01.2022 I just love this! Stay safe everyone and use your oils where you can you help support your physical & emotional health! Xxx
