24.01.2022 Great article written by local blogger, Jane Flynn on our business' COVID closure and the issues around Metro v. Regional for our Peninsula. Hear from Committee for Mornington Peninsula & Chris Brayne MP regarding what is and what will be... https://whatjanewrote.com.au/destination-no-mans-land/
24.01.2022 Last day to vote! Obligatory VOTE 1: GOFFIN Thanks everyone!
21.01.2022 Are you STILL holding onto those ballots?! I'm not one to judge - I got mine in today and just in time. Jackie reminded me that with the public holiday on Friday (the deadline to have ballots postmarked) post offices will be closed. Yikes! So Just track down your closest post box. OR! GET IT IN TOMORROW! Do your bit! Participate in the democratic process! Make your voice heard! Your vote count! BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD. ... And thanks. We are almost there folks.
16.01.2022 Speaking of waiting for the results of an election...it’s been almost 2 weeks since the end of our Councillor campaigns for local government here on the Mornington Peninsula. The Red Hill Ward has now been finalised and the votes have overwhelmingly gone to the incumbent David Gill. Yes, I am disappointed, incredibly so. I explained to my 8 year old that sometimes you try really hard and you do a really good job but you still don’t win. Or get the thing. I genuinely believ...Continue reading
10.01.2022 Here we are at the end. Of this bit. Friday marked the end of our elections period. Running for local government was never on my radar. I came to it because I felt that there were some things that were broken and that I could do better. I was the first to announce my candidacy in the Red Hill Ward and my desire to work for our community. I was, and continue to be inspired to do the hard work and to be the change I wish to see in the world. To earn and win the trust of our co...mmunity. In the doing of things and in the improvements we see. I could never have imagined what this election was. It was amazingly humbling to hear from so many of you active in our community in some way. You enlightened me and challenged me. And I will take those stories and hopes with me. Thank you for taking your time and for sharing. It was emotionally exhausting and I didn't expect it to be so confronting. I have a newly found respect for people seeking elected office. Out of a genuine desire to do good for our community I became public property in a way that at times was very uncomfortable. And then there was the surprise of those who showed up to support. Many of whom I didn't know before 2 months ago. Or very little. You wrote me messages, you called. You listened, offered advice, donated, put me in touch with this person and that. You gave me information to help me learn. You connected to my stories and rode some of these waves with me. Your words and your kindnesses balanced it all out. And I am eternally grateful for all of you who shared, called, wrote, liked, spoke to your friends or took a moment to support me and this campaign. It has been humbling. THANK YOU. And now we wait. The votes will be counted and this will all turn out as it should. I came to this with a vision but it was your stories that continued to drive me. Your motivation and your passion was something to live up to. To take every moment of every day over these last 8 weeks and act on connecting with you all. It was our collective need for integrity and transparency that consumed my thoughts and drove this campaign. I walk away knowing everything was done. And there are no stones unturned or moments that I'm not proud of. With that and until later, we get back into the other distractions. I am hoping that you all are safe and well and able to roam very soon. Thank you, for everything. I hope to be in touch again very soon. (And yes, pink hair. I blame isolation and election fatigue! )
09.01.2022 What a beautiful day on our Peninsula! Our local elections are now certified and our Councillors are ready to be sworn in at end of week. It's time to get to work - for them and for us - to ensure the promises made, are promises kept. And to make the changes we are hoping for a reality in our community. On that note, each of our Councillors were interviewed by local station RPPFM - Voice of the Peninsula and I've included here the video of the local Red Hill Ward Councillor ...(check out the channel to see the others across Wards). When asked what his intentions are for a post-Covid recovery, Councillor Gill says, "I have a plan. I have an advocacy line to take to the State Govt... the Shire should be doing a lot more with especially sporting clubs, volunteer groups and local businesses need our support." He is advocating for the Shire is to get things moving and spend money. He says [the Shire] need to be 'going hard' to ensure we have a financial recovery for the community.' Looking forward to catching up with Councillor Gill on his specifics for this plan and seeing the outcomes for these groups in our community in the very near future. I'll let you know when I have some info to share or ways that you can also reach out! Hope your weekends are wonderful and you're enjoying being out and about! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs6vP-SKkqQ
09.01.2022 Right. So, we are T minus less than 4 days until ballots must be post marked (THIS Friday - 23 Oct). Is yours still sitting on your table? I really need you to VOTE 1 - GOFFIN, Melissa - and get that sucker in the mail. Trust me. I've done my research and she's your woman. Here are all the ways this could go wrong:... 1. Not filling in each box with a number. Vote 1 for GOFFIN and then the rest. List 2-5 in whichever order you like! 2. The post office could take 2 weeks to get your mail from Flinders to Dromana. It's ok. Postmarked by Friday - you're all good. 3. Filling numbers in any ol' order and just going top to bottom or reverse. It's pretty easy right now to complain about the world. And nothing will ever be perfect but if you don't have a go then your world will never be what you hope. 4. Dropping or or in the boxes. Or leaving some blank. As much as you may have gotten some right - this is an all or nothing game. Numbers. In every box. To 5. 5. Forgetting and leaving the ballot on your table past Friday. See #3 above, not having a say and also, FINES. Cause, we seriously don't need those. 6. Your puppy eats the ballot. It happens. Get in touch with the local VEC immediately. They can provide a replacement. 7. Choosing a candidate because you like the way they look or their statement sounds nice. Take another few minutes and go onto our social media pages. We've all got them. What do we say? What are we talking about and how do we represent that? Are we nice? Overrated. Are we informed? Good. Do we reflect integrity and engender trust? Essential. Watch the town hall video clips on my page and hear us talk about the issues. 8. Believing that it doesn't matter. It does. Get your ballot completed and sent ASAP. Your voice can make a difference to not only you and yours but to many in our community. Share and spread the word - VOTE like it matters, cause it does. #bethechange
