21.01.2022 Standard comprehensive Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is coming to Melissa Kent Psychology in 2019. Standard comprehensive DBT has the most evidence in the treatment of symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder, suicidal behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, anger, and depression. It involves four modes: individual therapy, skills training, in the moment coaching, and a consultation team. For more information about our DBT program, contact us on 3184 2559 or [email protected].

21.01.2022 We completely agree, you are pretty pawsome!

17.01.2022 This might be of interest so some members of our community. The opportunity to participate in research into this important area would be invaluable. When participating in research like this, you are usually able to access the results when they are published, which would be very interesting. Have a read and consider participating.

17.01.2022 On Thursday the 21st of November, I was chosen to present at UQ’s Faculty of Medicine Research Symposium. I presented a poster outlining the research into DBT that forms the basis of my PhD. This research is important as it examines the mechanisms of action in DBT, with the overall aim of improving access to and dissemination of DBT in routine clinical settings. Which is a very good thing! DBT is my passion, and my passion is what drives me to do what I can to contribute to the body of research into DBT, and learn about it on every level including as a clinician, a trainer, a supervisor, and a researcher.

17.01.2022 One of our favourites.

10.01.2022 We have some exciting news to share! From the 4th of March, Melissa Kent Psychology will become The Glow Centre! Why the name change? Since first opening our practice 6 years ago in Melbourne, and then 3 years ago in Kenmore, we have grown from just Melissa, to a practice offering clients a diverse and experienced team of 7 clinicians, including psychologists, social workers, and most recently, a dietitian and a consulting psychiatrist.... Our new name is a much better fit for the practice we are today - a team of warm, understanding clinicians committed to helping clients find their ‘glow’, with our values of collaboration and clinical excellence. We are continuing to welcome referrals for children, adolescents, adults and families experiencing common concerns such as anxiety, depression and stress. In addition, our clinicians all have individual areas of specialist training and experience in Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD and complex trauma, eating disorders, disordered eating, body dissatisfaction, relationship difficulties, and grief and loss. What else is changing? Aside from our name, the most obvious change (as you’ve probably already noticed) is our logo. We’ve also launched a new website that will be live from 4th March - www.glowcentre.com.au, and a new Facebook page, which we would love for you to head over and like! Search "The Glow Centre". We also have new signs going up inside and outside of the practice. Our phone number, fax number, address, staff members, and the level of excellence in care you've come to expect from us, are staying the same. "Melissa Kent Psychology" will still exist on Facebook and online, but it will only be operating as Melissa's training and consultancy business. Thank you for all of your support over the past 6 years and for helping us to grow! We look forward to continuing to grow and glow with you. From the team at The Glow Centre

10.01.2022 You have so much strength inside you!

08.01.2022 You (yes YOU) are wonderful! Hope you are all having a restful start of the year

08.01.2022 Today I’m spreading the DBT knowledge to the team at Mission Australia. It’s Day 1 of a five-day intensive workshop. Looking forward to lots of interactive learning and development.

08.01.2022 As we all prepare to launch into the week ahead, I’d like to share this really useful diagram in the hope that you can use it in the coming week. I encourage you to be mindful of your emotions, and when you notice one of these feelings coming up, take a pause to respond (rather than react), and try the action suggested below. Melissa.

07.01.2022 Don’t wait until you’re down to your last molecule of serotonin before you do something to improve your wellbeing. There are many ways to generate, boost and retain serotonin: 1. Food that is good for your mood - foods high in tryptophan are great, as tryptophan is one of the molecules our brains synthesise into serotonin. Think oily fish, turkey, walnuts. 2. Enjoyment - do something you enjoy, purely for the sake of enjoyment. And while you’re at it, be unmindful if worries ...and mindfully aware of your experience as you’re doing it. Pay attention to what you can see, hear, touch, feel, smell and taste. 3. Laughter - in our practice we get most of our laughter from memes. But there are plenty of ways - watching funny YouTube videos (think cat videos, Fail Army, your favourite comedian doing standup), reading funny texts like books, short stories, watching a comedy movie or show. Share your best serotonin-boosting ideas below! See more

07.01.2022 Come and join us for a coffee (or hot chocolate....or chai....or herbal tea....no judgement here!) and a chat on Wednesday mornings from January 30th. This is open to everyone - you don’t have to be a client of ours. It will involve an hour of informal socialisation, to help increase your oxytocin (your feelgood social connection chemical), facilitated by Melissa. Email us at [email protected] to register your interest.

07.01.2022 One of our clinic dogs is in today. Lucy has been welcoming patients and sitting in with Kathryn’s sessions (mostly napping ). If you would like some calming canine company at your next session with Kathryn , please let us know. If Lucy is a concern for you for whatever reason, please also let us know.

01.01.2022 We are excited to announce that from February 21st, Melissa Kent Psychology will be offering a Creative Expressions group! Some activities you can e...xpect to do include vision boards, mandalas, gratitude journals and other activities designed to allow self-expression in a safe and supportive environment. You do not need any art experience nor do you need to be seeing a therapist in our practice. Sessions will be run on Thursday evenings from 7pm, from 21st February and throughout March and April.
