The ASI SUP Instructor workshops are he...ld immediately after the famous Merimbula Classic on 23-26 November 2017. A competition for SUP surfers, Kitesurfers, and wave surfers, it’s the longest running event of its kind in the world. The ASI Instructor courses running after the Merimbula Classic are SUP Water Safety Rescue Award, SUP Wise for instructors Foundation Skills, Level 1 SUP Instructor (Enclosed Flat water), Level 2 SUP Instructor (Exposed Waters) and combined courses. The SUP Water Rescue course covers key rescue techniques specifically for SUP Instructors. SUP Wise for instructors Foundation skills covers ASI paddling methodology and SUP Wise learn to SUP program. The Level 1 course covers essential instruction skills and techniques for instructing in flat water locations. The Level 2 SUP Instructor covers essential instruction skills for open waters with swell and chop (no breaking waves). Both L1 & L2 focuses exclusively on instruction covering instruction techniques, lesson structure, planning and delivery, managing clients safely, SUP School operations and suitable equipment, video assessment, technical analysis of SUP paddling technique to identify areas of incorrect technique. Delivered by ASI Trainer Melissa McManus, a highly experienced paddler, and SUP school owner. She was the first female to open a SUP school in Australia and has been a competitive paddler and involved in the SUP scene since its beginnings. 17.01.2022 New SUP Instructors for Townsville, QLD Australia. AUSTRALIA. TOWNSVILLE. Congratulations to our new instructors who completed ASI SUP Instructor fast-track cou...rses on 19-21 January 2018 at Townsville in the tropical far north of Queensland. ASI SUP Trainer, Melissa McManus flew into Townsville from Sydney to deliver the 3 days of intensive training covering ASI SUP Instructor Water Safety Rescue, Level 1 SUP Instructor Enclosed Flat Water and Level 2 SUP Instructors Exposed Waters. At this time of year, the weather is pretty hot and humid at around 28 Celsius. The first day was conducted at the inland waterway of Ross River, a freshwater paddling paradise, which also provided a welcome relief to the heat. The trainee instructors learned how to conduct different rescues using SUP equipment. The Level 1 Enclosed flat water practical skills were also conducted here - learning how to structure and deliver lessons, technical paddling instructional methods, managing clients safely and much more. Video analysis was also conducted breaking down the key elements of the ASI paddling methodology The Level 2 SUP Instructor exposed waters courses were held at the nearby beach, where trainee instructors learned how to deliver SUP sessions and manage clients in open waters with swell but no breaking waves. Stingers are also prevalent in coastal waters in this region, but the beach location was free of stingers and stinger suits were only worn as a risk precaution (or you could also wear long sleeves and leggings so you are covered up). We started at 8am each day and finished at 6pm, with half the day in the classroom and half out on the water gaining key practical skills. All the trainee instructors did a great job, said Melissa. All the instructors praised the training saying it far exceeded their expectations and they learned an amazing lot information, that could readily be put into practice. The course had comprehensive materials in visual and written, easy to follow formats. Really enjoyed it. Mel is an exceptional trainer with a lot of hands-on experience and tips gained over the years. She was one of the first people to set up a SUP school in Australia 2009 and regularly competes with some outstanding results." Townsville is the gateway to the Barrier Reef and only 30-minute ferry ride to Magnetic Island. A tropical paradise, beautiful scenery, with an abundance of wildlife. 06.01.2022 I had the pleasure of teaching Sam McClymont from the Getaway program how to SUP on the gorgeous waters of Jervis Bay.

06.01.2022 I was very fortunate to attend not one, but two clinics by one of the world's fastest paddlers last weekend: Clinic one on stroke and technique, clinic two on race training and tactics. Both were fantastic. Thank you Michael Booth Athlete, currently number 2 on the world rankings!
