17.01.2022 This week’s Budget was all about jobs. Yesterday I joined Karen Andrews, Angie Bell and Deb Frecklington to see first hand some of the great Aussie manufacturer...s creating jobs right here in Queensland. I also caught up with Wade Mellish from Holmwood Highgate and local member Bert van Manen to discuss how the measures in the Budget are helping Wade invest in his business with confidence, including bringing on 6 new apprentices. Our Modern Manufacturing plan in this year’s budget will help to get more Queenslanders into jobs and will be greatly boosted by Deb Frecklington's plan to Queensland working again. From revolutionising the use of recycled plastics in construction to building our sovereign defence manufacturing capabilities, Australian businesses are innovating and creating an exciting future. And this Budget is supporting them to do just that, as we grow out of the COVID crisis and build for the future.

16.01.2022 BUSHFIRE CLOSES MAJOR GERALDTON ROAD The Geraldton-Mount Magnet Road is closed between Edward Road and the Mingenew-Mullewa Road due to a bushfire. A bushfi...re advice is in place for people in an area bounded by Geraldton-Mount Magnet Road near Casuarinas Road to the south, west to Peter Road and north to Old-Geraldton Road. There is no threat to lives or homes, but there is a lot of smoke in the area. DFES says the bushfire is moving fast in a north easterly direction and is out of control and unpredictable. Firefighters are on the scene actively fighting the fire. The City of Greater Geraldton is advising community members to avoid the area until further notice and obey all warning signs and directions. UPDATE: The rail line has also been closed. A spokeswoman for Arc Infrastructure said the line was closed at about 2:20pm.

07.01.2022 Today, your Liberal team, with a new generation of WA Liberal leadership in Zak Kirkup MP and Libby Mettam, demonstrated that this election is all about you. To...gether, your Liberal team is working for a safer, smarter today, so Western Australians have a brighter and better tomorrow. That means working constructively and following the advice of the Chief Health Officer to keep Western Australians safe from COVID-19. A future Liberal government will continue to follow the Chief Health Officer's advice and we will also make it open and transparent because we think Western Australians are mature enough and deserve to see this advice. This pandemic is not a political fight, there is only us together against the virus. But we know safety isn’t just about COVID, we need to do more to make people feel safer at home, in their communities and in their jobs. More police, tougher laws and fixing the hospital ambulance ramping crisis are a key part of our plan. We also need to make sure our seniors feel safer in their retirement, because they have already made such a significant contribution to our society and we respect that. Cutting taxes and reducing the cost of household bills will help families feel more financially safe and secure, giving them the confidence to invest to get ahead. Young people should feel empowered by the safety of a hand-up to help them get trained and into their first job, giving them the best possible start to their careers. Mums and dads who have left the workforce to raise their children and help their families get ahead should have the financial safety of knowing there are the opportunities to re-skill and up-skill to find rewarding jobs. We are 100% focused on the issues you have been talking to our team about, because that’s what matters. Together, your Liberal team will be working every minute between now and the election, in every seat, to deliver Western Australians a safer and smarter today, so we can all enjoy a brighter and better tomorrow.

06.01.2022 OPEN OUR WA BORDER OR NOT? WA’s Chief Health Officer says that WA could open its border to most states. Meanwhile the WA Government says WA’s border closure is due to health reasons. So what is the reason?? Many businesses in Durack are doing it tough, especially in the East Kimberley. Back in August I spoke in Federal Parliament about the need for our State to set out a plan for the reopening of the border. Create a WA/SA/NT bubble? Ensure contact tracing and testing regimes are fit for purpose? We are still waiting.

06.01.2022 WA naval shipbuilding has gone from zero to boom in just seven years, thanks to investment by the Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Government to build up to 45 vessels at... Henderson worth around $16 billion. Here’s a snapshot of shipbuilding underway today in WA: Austal is building 21 Guardian Class patrol boats and six Cape Class patrol boats, employing some 500 workers; Luerssen Australia and Civmec are building 10 Arafura offshore patrol vessels, employing more than 200 workers, with 300 companies in the supply chain; The Warship Asset Management Alliance is sustaining and upgrading our ANZAC Class frigates, supporting more than 200 workers; and Intermediate and mid-cycle docking by ASC to maintain our regionally-superior Collins Class submarines. And there’s more to come, thanks to Scott Morrison (ScoMo) Government’s $183 billion commitment which includes the build and sustainment of more than 70 naval vessels here in Australia. Now the State Government must deliver on its long-discussed master plan and upgrade facilities at Henderson to ensure WA is ready for more jobs, more work, and more investment.
