My path to designing aged care was a personal one. It was this that saw Meli Studio in 2011 change its purpose and mission. Our teeny-tiny firm was recognised with Design Firm of the Year by The Eldercare Innovations Awards Ageing Asia Alliance 2020. Meli Studio received the biggest recognition on the international stage. To say I’m proud and honored is an understatement. So thankful we get to work with all the people we do and be a central part of the process of really changing aged care. The journey has had its hiccups, part of life’s biggest learning curve. These moments however outweigh all the challenges. 07.01.2022 I am very sad to hear of the sudden passing of Chris Murphy. A serendipitous moment to have met him on a flight to NYC, which lead to a discussion about completely turning the retirement living world upside-down. I never would have thought that seeing him and his wife at their beloved home last August, would be the last time we could chat in person about retiring rock-n-roll style, what ‘that’ retirement community would look like, taking on the non-believers, and all things INXS. Thank you for bringing so much to the music industry and leading the way for Australian bands overseas. And, thank you for educating me about all things pigeons and blue eggs on your beloved Sugar Beach Ranch. RIP. ~ Julie
