This incredible partnership between Father (Tony) and Son (Paul), is no more! The bond, they shared together with the memories, knowledge and love will resonate (flow) through Melita Auto Electrical Services for years to come. ... 12.01.2022 5KM RESTRICTION FROM A CONSUMER AND BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE UPDATE VACC our governing body for the Automotive Industry has explained the 5km restrictions for Stage 4 Shutdown which are: "If a consumer does bring their vehicle to Melita, and will breach the 5km restriction as a result of a lack of suitable business and/or geographical stops they may be able to leave that restricted area. This is validated by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) who advise... that: You can only travel up to 5km from your home. You should stay as close to your home as possible, for example shopping at the nearest supermarket. For some people the nearest goods and services will be more than 5km away. In this situation you may travel beyond 5km to the nearest provider. Consumer please refer to DHHS website for further information. This type of situation, and under the current Stay at Home Directions No. 7 you should refer any consumers to the following statement ‘if it is not reasonably practicable for a person to obtain the necessary goods and services from within the 5km zone, then this rule would not apply. (See s 5, Part 1(AC)(B)(ii) of the Stay at Homes Directions No 7). CASE STUDIES: VACC interprets this to mean that if a consumer, for e.g., lived in Sunbury and needed their Audi to have a safety issue rectified, then they should go to the nearest Audi dealer. They should not drive past two or three different Audi dealers to provide this service. To drive past those Audi dealerships is not practicable. Industry should be aware of this. VACC interprets this to mean that if a consumer contacts you from outside their 5km zone and needed their vehicle repaired due to a safety or an emergency related issue, then they should be seeking this service from the nearest service provider within their zone FIRST but if it not possible and Melita is the only closest Auto Electrical Repairer outside 5km it is OK to go to Melita! 07.01.2022 Stage 4 Restriction COVID-19 - your vehicle checklist! The most common problems that we are seeing in the workshop at the moment are batteries that are playing up or are totally dead, because of the majority of stationary cars - stay at home lock down situation etc. A dying battery may not seem like an urgent safety issue, but a completely dead battery certainly is! Here are some of the signs to look for:... * Headlights and Radio not working. * Clicking sound when you turn the key. * Slow crank. * Needing to press on the pedal to start. * Backfiring, Incorrectly charged etc Give us a call, and, stop by, for a FREE BATTERY TEST, to see exactly how much life is left in your battery. 05.01.2022 Why is an Electric Brake Unit important? Electric brake units ensure the safety of the passengers in the tow vehicle as well as other drivers around. They allow more control over the braking force of the caravan, boat, float, trailer, jet ski etc.. and take the pressure off the tow vehicle’s brakes. With an electric brake unit installed in your vehicle you feel less push from behind, easier and quicker stopping and a reduction in the jarring of the linkages. Operating Hours as Norman: MONDAY TO FRIDAY 8:00am to 5:00pm 1) Please call us "FIRST" on Tel: 9391 6283 for all safety and Emergency Auto Electrical repairs. 2) When you arrive at Melita call us from your vehicle Tel: 9391 6283, we will direct you on what to do next to maintain "contact less service." - DROP & GO! 3) If you are not well, please get better first and we will be here to help you once you have recovered. Remember to always were a mask! 5) If you are concerned about dropping off your vehicle you can: a) If you are a RACV member organise for them to tow your car to Melita. b) Melita can recommend Tow Truck services for pickup/drop. At the end of the day the decision is yours! 4) It is important to note in the restriction guidelines that the "Stay at Home Directions No 7 states, "If it is not reasonably practicable for a person to obtain the necessary good and services from within the 5 km zone, then this rule will not apply (See s5 Part 1 (AC)(B)(i) of the Stay at Home Directions No 7) ie: Repairing on a vehicle requires a specialist or a brand specific workplace to preform the necessary repairs. Eg: You live in Altona Meadows and there is no Auto Electrician within your 5km radius, than you will be allowed to travel to Melita in Newport for safety and emergency Auto Electrical repairs. This has been verified by our governing body VACC - Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce who work closely with government on all matters regarding the Automotive Industry. We have a COVID Safe Plan in place and the staff are will take necessary precautions and safety steps to prevent any situations. He helped work on a caravan about to go on a road trip, though a bit dirty, overall he had a lot of fun! Here is what he had to say:... 1) What do you think of your work experience at Melita?
