23.01.2022 Thinking of the amazing Ian Bloxsom and the honour, the joy, the delight of working with him for nearly 20 years. It is hard to believe that such a vital presence has left us. My thoughts - and those of everyone in The Mell-O-Tones - are with his family on the loss of such an exceptional human.

21.01.2022 There is much sad news of late, and here, alas, is more: The Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace in Cremorne is closing temporarily, which means that the Mell-O-Tones’ next scheduled performance in this beautiful space, on May 31, has been cancelled. We hope (fervently) to be performing for you at the Orpheum later in the year but, in the meantime, here is our performance of a song which says what words cannot say at a time like this. Stay safe, stay well, keep on swinging (in iso...lationnow there’s a picture) and see you as soon as possible. https://soundcloud.com/user-683648753/honeysuckle-rose

21.01.2022 Jim Elliott, long-time member of The Mell-O-Tones, is an ace arranger and modern monarch of the bass saxophone. His small-group set in yesterday’s show at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace had the crowd cheering. Who knew that the Tennessee Waltz could be played so effectively in 4/4?! We’re so looking forward to being back at the Orpheum on Sunday 31st May at 1 pm. See you there! Geoff Power

07.01.2022 Toe-tapping is an understatement for the program the Mell-O-Tones has in store for you on Sunday March 1 at the Hayden Orpheum, Cremorne. We’ll pay tribute to songs made famous by Judy Garland, we’ll head back to the roaring 20s, we’ll go Latin and we may even become folkies for a few minutes. Peter, Paul, Mary and Phil, did you say? The fun starts at 1pm, and after interval we’ll clear the stage so you can experience a rare big-screen presentation of Garland’s spectacular A Star Is Born (1954). 07.01.2022 There's no question that the album the Mell-O-Tones made with Don Burrows in 2004 was a peak moment for the band. We had played a number of live gigs together and decided the moment was right to take our work into the studio for ABC Classics. It was an honour and a privilege to make music with this remarkable man, while his wit, enthusiasim and patience were a lesson to us all. His playing, and his generosity of spirit, inspired generations of Australian musicians. Mell-O-Tonians in this pic, taken at the sessions, from left: Grahame Conlon, Jim Elliott, Alan Solomon, Ben Gurton, John Charles (seated), Lloyd Nicholas, Stan Marcella Kenton, Glenn Edwin Henrich, Trevor Rippingale, Brian McGuinness, Don Burrows, Ian Bloxsom, also of blessed memory, yours truly, Adrian Veale, Geoff Power.
