24.01.2022 On this weekend every year, our beautiful little town normally comes to life to the sound of bagpipes & pipebands. There's dancing & singing & tartan everywhere you look. This year, we are missing everyone but know that they are here in spirit. Over the years, I've loved being part of the Australian Celtic Festival whether as a marriage celebrant or as a stallholder for my boutique or as the owner of Crofters Cottage. It gives me a great sense of pride that our small but hardworking & talented community holds this event that is enjoyed by thousands of visitors & locals alike. Here's just a few of my memories. Love, Mel xox

23.01.2022 This fun photo appeared on my feed today from the Deepwater Jockey Club Inc and Glen Innes Highlands Visitor Association. The beautiful (& very tall lol) Kiri & I had won the best hat section of the Fashions of the Field competition way back in 2014 ... maybe??? Always a great time to be had at our local race days

22.01.2022 #Flashback Friday .. Today marks the end of an era :( The Bee's Knees closed it's doors for the very last time. I started this little shop about 8 years ago in the main street of Glen Innes. It was first time being self employed and a chance to express my love for all things bright & beautiful. My favourite part of this time in my life was the many friendships made including the special bond with my 'wing women', the incredible Anne Starr & all the other lovely ladies who pla...yed a huge role in giving the shop it's fun and positive vibe <3 I also loved the sense that I was contributing in a small way to our beautiful community. For the past 3 years, the lovely Lynda Ludlow has been the owner of the store and she has now evolved the business online so I'm looking forward to checking out The Bee's Knees Online soon & I wish her all the best with her new adventure <3 Here's a snippet of my memories ... 22.01.2022 Congratulations Mr & Mrs Guise dreams really do come true Stunning spring afternoon at 'Rock Abbey' overlooking the Beardy River

20.01.2022 There was no way this beautiful Glen Innes couple was going to let anything, including a global pandemic, stop them from getting married. They told me they just wanted to tie the knot 'rain, hail or shine'. It took a little bit of chopping & changing but they finally became husband & wife <3

19.01.2022 It was an absolute honour to be asked to lead the final farewell for such an amazing women. Jean was a loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother .. and will be terribly missed <3 Mel Thank you for the wonderful job you did for us. You really captured what we had told you about our Mum and our beautiful memories of her.... The service was lovely and has been commented on by many as so fitting for Mum and truly captured a little of what so many remembered about her. It is a sad time for us all but we have to be thankful for all the years we had her for and we know that she is at peace now. Thanks again for a lovely service. J.L, Glen Innes

17.01.2022 I have had the great privilege to stand beside this family in their good times and their saddest of times. About 4 years ago, I first met this family when I married Chris & Tammy in their backyard here in Glen Innes. I remember the love & laughter shared that day and Courtney was a ray of sunshine who had everyone smiling. About 12 months ago, I was asked to lead the final farewell for this beautiful, vibrant young women. Knowing this family as I did, this was one of the hard...est services I'd ever had to write & conduct. There was an outpouring of sorrow for this beautiful young women with so much ahead of her .. but we also had a lot of smiles & even some laughter as we remembered her and the way she had touched our lives with her bubbly spirit. Then about 3 months ago, I received a call from 60 Minutes Australia asking me to do hair & makeup for a story they were filming in Glen Innes. When told it was about Courtney and I was to do Cheryl-Leigh & Tammy's hair & makeup, I jumped at the chance to spend time with these wonderful women & to hopefully make them feel relaxed and comfortable as they bravely put themselves out there to tell Courtney's story in the hope that it may save others from going through the heartache they have felt ever since their daughter & sister passed away. I can't help but think that it's strange sometimes how the universe works to connect us all. I hope I've been able to help this amazing family in some small way. And it's reminded me that life is short and that we have to live each day to the full .. just as Courtney did <3 See more

17.01.2022 Catching up on some reading during iso. Enjoying Michelle Obama's autobiography. I love how she shares her memories from their wedding day... 'I felt it then - the power of what we were doing, the significance of the ritual - as we stood there with our future still unwritten, with every unknown still utterly unknown, just gripping each other's hands as we said our vows. Whatever was out there, we'd step into it together... I had faith in this union, I had faith in this man.' #becoming #michelleobama #barackandmichelle #bookworm #abookadaykeepsrealityaway

17.01.2022 #Sad Face .. Today I watched the final episode of the latest season of #Outlander :( If you're looking for a TV series to binge watch during ISO, Outlander is bursting with adventure, romance & drama. I must confess that I'm a bit of an Outlander tragic . In 2018, Glen Innes welcomed 500 Outlander fans from all over Australia to a weekend of tartan, bagpipes, fun & friendship at the The Australian Standing Stones National Celtic Monument including a wedding & vow renewals in the spirit of Outlander. And .... we got to meet the spunky David Berry whose character Lord John Grey is one of my favs Bring on season 6!!!!

From this Friday, the NSW government has relaxed restrictions so that up to 10 guests can attend weddings and up to 20 mourners (inside service) and 30 mourners (outside service) for funerals. 08.01.2022 Lest We Forget .. My grandad, John (Jack) Lindsay, born in Christchurch, NZ in 1894. At 21 years old, he enlisted to serve his country as a Private in the Canterbury Infantry Regiment in WWI. My grandad came from a large family of 9 children with the eldest 3 boys all proudly serving in the NZ army. George Leonard Lindsay was my grandad's big brother and he was tragically killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915. His younger brother Robert (Bob) was wounded in action in 1917 in France but recovered to return to NZ at the end of the war. After 4 years of active service, thankfully my grandad returned home safely & in 1925 married my nana, Dot. They were blessed with 3 children including my Dad, John. Jack passed away in Brisbane in 1981 when I was in my early teens and this is the happy photo of grandad & nana that I treasure

05.01.2022 Friday Flashback October 2012, my gorgeous cousin, Shauna Cowen married her soulmate, Alexander Cowen at Yamba. Love, love, love this photo of our bride with her tribe which includes my other beautiful cousin, Penny Watson. This was very early in my make-up artist career when I teamed up with my talented sister, Marney Lindsay to spend a fun morning with the girls

04.01.2022 Safe to say I was a teeny bit heartbroken when the borders closed and I wasn't able to marry this beautiful young couple, Brodie & Gemma, at the Girraween National Park last month. A huge thanks to a wonderful QLD based celebrant, Gwenda, who kindly jumped in at the last minute and helped our couple tie the knot <3

02.01.2022 'Mel did a wonderful job on making our wedding day look and feel amazing. Mel also did all the make up for our bridal party and she did an excellent job. She went above and beyond to make our day just perfect and without her our day wouldn't have been what it was. Thank you so much Mel' Breanna & Hayden Hobson

01.01.2022 'Having Mel officiate our special day was such an easy decision. From getting in contact, to our first meeting over a cup of tea, and on the day itself Mel was genuine, kind and invested in our story. Mel tailored our ceremony to be exactly how we wanted it while offering a tips and professional service to ensure the ceremony ran as smoothly as possible. Would definitely recommend ' Peter & Kate, Glen Innes March 2020

01.01.2022 #Flashback Friday .. how lucky was I to spend the first 10 years of my working life in the travel industry? Many of those years were spent working with the amazing crew at Bill Peach Journeys offering the most incredible tours around outback Australia by private aircraft A shout out to many of my friends still in the industry that are really doing it tough at the moment.
