It takes a lot to build your own business. It's not for everyone. I admire those who are willing to back themselves and take a risk.... Because what you risk reveals what you value. Every business owner has a compelling story that made them take the risk. And I love how I get to hear these stories and understand why their business matters to them and to the clients they serve. It feels SO GOOD to finally have some gorgeous branding that expresses a little of me and what Im striving to create through my business. 24.01.2022 Meet Paul Benson, Financial Planner, Author and Host of @financialautonomypodcast. Paul is the go-to guy when youve got your mind on your money and money on your mind but dont know where to start. His website is full of resources if you like to learn and if you prefer working 1:1 he is just a phone call away. Paul reached out to me earlier this year as he had just finished his first book, Financial Autonomy and had decided to revamp his website to coincide with its rel...ease. He needed fresh new photos to use for the new website and publicity for his book that were on brand and helped increase his visibility and be seen by a wider audience. Love it! For Pauls shoot I worked closely with his designer/web developer, the amazing @diana_tsh, to ensure the images I created would fit with the aesthetic and design of Pauls website. I spent a day with Paul capturing everything we needed back when restrictions were lifted. Im so glad we were able to do that because who knew wed go back into lockdown again! At the beginning of lockdown many business owners were forced to look at what opportunities existed online for them so they could continue to offer their services despite the restrictions imposed on us. This made them become critically aware of the importance of having strong and consistent visuals to help their business not only stand out online but to help build trust with potential clients. ... They realised their websites werent really serving them as well as they could be and that the photography aspect was in serious need of an upgrade. This may be you right now and you may be wondering what to do and the answer to this is that it depends on where you are in your business journey. But no matter whether youre at chapter 0 or chapter 20 start with your headshot. If youre the CEO of one or many, people like (and want) to see the person behind the brand! 20.01.2022 Happy International Day of Friendship! Theres a saying that goes never do business with friends or family. But I disagree.... Being in business has introduced me to the most incredible people. Some who initially were clients who I now call friends. Some who were friends who then became clients. And the one attribute these relationships all have is a deep appreciation and respect for each other as people. And as business owners. So who better to do business with??? 19.01.2022 Beautiful Spring! The start of Spring has never felt so good! Isnt it funny how when we are feeling too contained (hello lockdown ) small details get really amplified? Things we had a mild appreciation for we now are obsessed with (for me thats skin care) and things we tolerated have now been ditched completely! (socks with holes in them . Why did I put up with them for so long? NEVER AGAIN! ).... Has anyone else noticed this? And now Spring has taken on a whole new level of wonderful. Its time to bloom people! And for me, thats aiming high and making the most of the rest of the year. What about you?

19.01.2022 As Im sure Ive mentioned before, Ive recently engaged a graphic designer to rebrand my lil ol biz here. We are about half way through the process and I have to say IM SO FREAKIN EXCITED about the new direction the vibe and feel is headed. It has inspired me to look forward and create something super special for when its time to launch my new brand and website that will help us all get back into our businesses again.... 19.01.2022 Spent some more time this afternoon getting creative in the studio. Ive always wanted to re-create this concept where the products appear to be suspended. I think its a great idea and technique to help make the products stand out and introduce an element of fun into the image. 15.01.2022 Just wanted to check in with you . This year will go down as one of the strangest most challenging and surreal times of our lives. Many of us have been impacted in ways we never imagined.... And you know what? Its ok, not to be ok. As business owners sometimes we can get caught in a virtue trap of wanting to appear in control and exude an EVERYTHINGS FINE persona when really were not coping and our knuckles are turning white from overwhelm and anxiety. Its important to acknowledge this and reach out to those you trust so you can drop the mask and say how it really is for you. Ive found that being able to speak my truth and hold space for others to speak theirs, one of the best ways to navigate my way back to wellness again. That and also practicing self-compassion. What is self-compassion? Its the practice of being kind to yourself. Asking, what do I need right now? And honouring that as you would for your best friend. Its about recognising youre human and that your capacity to do and be will be different on different days. And being cool with that. 15.01.2022 Throwback to my shoot in January with the gorgeous Brenna . Brennas Mum reached out to me because she wanted her daughter to be reminded of how gorgeous she is! She told me Brenna had been having a hard time lately and so to take her mind of things booked her in with me for a Modern Beauty Portrait session. (Hello - awesome Mum!) These sessions are all about reconnecting with who you are and creating something special to remind you that no matter what happens, youre wo...rthy! These sessions are also about holding space for people and inviting them to express who they are or who they want to be. To play and have fun. And to capture it all so they have something to be reminded. Brenna came alive during her shoot. Her Mums plan worked!!! 13.01.2022 Here we go again! Sigh. Sadly, because of the forthcoming lockdown I wont be able to accept any headshot/personal branding sessions in studio during the next 6 weeks . Of course, if you were thinking of having headshots or personal branding photos created then I invite you to book now so we can begin planning and then go ahead with your shoot as soon as restrictions are lifted.... Theres no reason why we cant use this down time to refine your brand and then plan and design your photo shoot to bring it to life! In the mean time I will be focusing on offering product photography for online businesses and brands so if that is you, please reach out. You can drop your products off at my studio, have them photographed (styled or plain) and in a few days have some gorgeous new shots for your website and socials . This year has been so hard (read: a sh*t show) with all the disruptions thus far. I know I cant be the only one who is kind of over it. Actually, Im really over it. HOWEVER, the fact is peoples lives are at risk so we have to do what we have to do to get this virus under control again. I get that. As I told my kids just now, we have to do the best we can with what we have and get on with it . Stay safe everyone .

13.01.2022 You know you need to put yourself out there and book that photoshoot on behalf of your business but you dont because you havent figured out what your personal brand is or what its supposed to look like. As a photographer, I hear this all the time. My suggestion? Dont let that stop you. You dont have to have it all figured out. Start with acknowledging where you are today and ask where and who do I want to be in 2 years time? ... The image of future you is your guide. But what if it changes along the way? Thats ok. And, invariably it will and should! Because it means your growing. Your clients will enjoy being part of that journey. So, dont hold yourself back. Where do you see yourself in 2-3 years time?

12.01.2022 Yesterday was my first day back on the job creating a gallery of personal branding photographs for my client who is launching his first book and creating a new website for his business. After having so much down time I felt a bit nervous to be honest but as soon as we started shooting I found my groove again. What really helped me was having a clear shot list of what needed to be captured on the day and being ultra prepared. The key to any successful shoot is preparation an...d understanding the purpose behind the photos being created. For this shoot I worked closely with my client and his web designer to create images that not only showcases my clients products and services, expertise and personality but that also fit aesthetically, with his brand. Ill share more details soon about how it all came together . For now, I need to go through yesterdays captures and pick out the top 1% that support my clients brand and website best!

10.01.2022 A few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Lisa and her beautiful family . Lisa contacted me about 13 months ago because she wanted to capture some family portraits before her big kids finished high school and flew the coup! After chatting to Lisa about the style and feel she wanted for her family photos we decided that an outdoor shoot at golden hour would work best. ... However, after booking in a date last year the weather was never on our side! But then after rescheduling covid hit, then lockdown (twice!) and so we needed to be patient. Finally, after many, many months of waiting we booked a date for her session and thankfully this time the weather didn't disappoint!!! I love how these family photos turned out and they're going to look great on the wall of their home. I think this year has highlighted how important our families are and to cherish them always. Capturing family portraits is a wonderful way to mark a moment in time with the ones you love most .

09.01.2022 Not sure who needs to hear this but hang in there Melbs . On the weekend I stole an hour just for me to get creative and test out some ideas for future shoots. I really miss photographing people. Given I cant do that right now I had to contend with getting in the frame myself . ... I felt like an actor inhabiting the role of a character. And for that small hour I was able to forget about everything else and just be in the moment. Allowing myself time and space to make something no matter how big or small is key to getting through the next few weeks. Im sharing this because I hope it inspires you to do the same. Its totally ok to feel all the feels. But then, when the moment comes when the feels subside, ask, what next? Well, here are some ideas for you that help me. Stay calm. Stay connected. Stay creative. 07.01.2022 Spent a few hours in the studio this afternoon playing with product photography. Go-To is one of my favourite skin care brands and I really loved using hard light to create this look for these products. I wouldve had more images to share but after setting everything up and getting the composition and lights exactly how I wanted them it was time to go and pick up the kids from school!... One huge misconception about product photography is that its quick and easy. The fact is, it takes hours to create high quality commercial images that will help sell the product and appeal to a brands audience.

03.01.2022 It’s ok to go slow. Seriously. I know some people may be feeling all this pressure to return to their version of normal because others seem to already be there but honestly, it’s ok to honour your own rhythm and pace yourself. Let me tell you a little story. Last year a couple of friends and I signed up to a fun run at the Tan in Melbourne. We opted for the 8km course because we had recently done a 5km and wanted to extend ourselves. Plus there was the challenge of the infa...mous Anderson Rd mega steep hill! My friends and I trained for that distance and hill for weeks following each other on Strava and encouraging one another as we went. On race day, we were ready. The race starts and I set my pace so not to crash and burn too soon. I had mapped out in my mind exactly how I would manage my energy across the entire distance including allowing myself to slow right down on Anderson Rd to save energy. As we ran I got passed by a lot of people who were taller, faster, stronger than me. I remember this one guy wearing black shorts. He flew past me and I thought Wow! How amazing is he? Then we got to Anderson Rd. I slowed my pace to avoid having to break my stride and walk. Or worse, stop and fall into a heap while others jogged past. As I jogged guess who I saw up ahead walking, shoulders hunched trying to catch his breath up the hill? Yep. Old mate, Black Shorts. I’ll admit it felt kind good to run past him. As I got to the other side of the hill I picked up my normal speed and focused on the remaining distance. You know what happened then? Black Shorts flew past me AGAIN! I was like wait, what? And then, I checked myself. We are all running our own race! Black Shorts paced himself. Even if that meant walking up the hill and then flying on the flat. I paced myself based on what I know about how my body responds over that distance. Needless to say we both finished the race. So as we come out of lockdown. Pace yourself peeps. Run your own race. Listen to yourself and set your own goals. Happy Thursday .

Before I became a photographer I was an actor/ singer/ songwriter My weaknesses are coffee and fine art croissants My mother was a passionate photographer who still to this day carries a point and shoot in her bag. #documenteverything #majorinfluence I believe who we think we are is but a fraction of Who We Are. Music is the language of my soul. I love having conversations that go further than you think they should #gold I love using my creative skills to help others be who they want to be and do what they want to do.
