22.01.2022 The Melrose Heritage Museum sadly farewelled Darry and Gaye as our Caretakers last week and thank them for their tireless contribution which has been so greatly appreciated. Now we would like to welcome our new Caretakers Valda and Shaun and trust that their stay with us will be a thoroughly enjoyable one. The Museum will be open every day from 10am to 4pm. Volunteers will open once a week usually on thursdays and on these days it will only be open from 10am to 1pm... The Museum is also open by appointment and conducts guided tours by phoning to pre book on 8666 2141 or emailing: [email protected] school groups are welcome and COVID safe rules are abided with. if you have not visited this Museum please come and check it out as you will be pleasantly surprised with the size and standard of it as it is a fully accredited Museum. You will be able to check out the Melrose Police Station and Courthouse which was the only one in the Northern areas extending as far down as Clare, and up to the Northern Territory border until it was officially closed in 1967. it also has 5 large outbuildings to check out behind this come and enjoy. 15.01.2022 check out this photo from the Archives at Melrose. it is the Melrose Strawberry Fete c.1910. have been doing some research and records show 1949 there was a Met...hodist Strawberry Fete and Mr Herb Eye used to provide the strawberries for the fetes. (he lived in the house alongside the Melrose school) . in 1958 there were definitely yearly Strawberry Fetes occurring at the Melrose Institute and they involved stalls, a lucky dip for the kids, and strawberries of course. The highlight of the evening was a concert where visiting artists came as well as the local talent who participated. this concert was eventually managed by the Melrose Primary School students but not sure for how long and what year they took over and what year they folded. checking with Institute records the strawberry fetes were the major fundraiser for the Institute. still searching for the year these folded. the strawberry fete has been brought to life again in the Melrose Institute in the last few years. Held on a Sunday and has stalls and of course the strawberries. anyone who can give me information or photos would be much appreciated as would be great to have a record in the Archives for future generations. many thanks Liz Bishop (Secretary)

14.01.2022 sharing this post Liz

11.01.2022 Advising that the Melrose Heritage Museum will be closed to the public just for Friday 30th October. Reason being.we have a large school group booked in for that day. Otherwise the opening hours are 10am to 4pm daily. One day a week the Museum is opened by volunteers and it is then only open from 10am to 1pm and this is generally Thursdays. 09.01.2022 Can I just advise the community that there are only 2 flags flying at the Melrose Heritage Museum at present due to the fact that guide ropes have frayed on the... other 2 poles. We need to be able to now Aquire the rope & actually put it up so this will be rectified as soon as possible. Liz. See more

09.01.2022 Very pleased to be able to advise that the museum has recently been successful with 2 further grant applications for funding to improve the facility. 1 is for putting touch screens into our recently restored courtroom which will focus on significant court trials in the district when it was a working courtroom. The other is for replacing a very outdated projector in the brewery theatrette Many thanks to the History Trust Mac finding Smarty Grants . Liz. (Secretary)

06.01.2022 Melrose Districts History Society Inc. is seeking expressions of interest in the Caretker position for this hertitage museum. this interesting positon would suit an active couple with a pension or similar. there is a comfortable adjoining house provided. for further information phone (08) 8666 2053. Applications close 17th February 2017. can you share this with anyone you think might be interested in the position.... can I add that we have a wonderful bunch of volunteers that will endevour to keep the Museum open on most days so it will be business as usual until we can find a new caretaker. 05.01.2022 have applied for a $25,000 grant for the betterment of the Museum. have been informed that the proposal is now short listed so we now need votes to be successful. luckily voting is easy and all you need to do is go to this link : https://yoursay.sa.gov.au/fmi ideas/audible-pathways then simply create and account and vote. it is really important that we spread the word and pass on the link to others in the community so that we can get as many votes as possible. influence your friends as well so that we can trun this great Museum into an exceptional Museum. voting closes soon so get on and vote now please. if we are successful the Museum will be made more wheelchair friendly outside and we will also have audio head sets to give you that guided tour.

04.01.2022 Just advising that our Caretakers for the past few years Shayne and Diana Clark are finishing up on June 30th and moving on. The Society cannot thank them enough for all the care and devotion that they have put into the Museum while they have been the careatakers and we wish them both all the best in their new life changes. The Society would now like to welcome new Caretakers who take over on July 1st - Darryl Trinne and Gaye Wiegand and we trust that their stay with us will be an enjoyable one. Liz Bishop ( Secretaty).

04.01.2022 Morning tea for the Museum volunteers. Very pleasant thanks

04.01.2022 Great news received yesterday. The Melrose Heritage Museum has been successful with a grant application from the History Trust of South Australia. This will enable the Society to commence the 1st stage of an upgrade, to modernise the interpretation of the Courthouse and Judiciary which was established in the 1850’s. It will include both static and audio.visual displays to take us back to those early times and experience some of t...he court trials which were held there. Will keep the community updated on progress in the New Year. Also a reminder that our Caretaker Shayne is opening at 9am daily during summer. The Museum will be closed over Xmas and new year and will not reopen until Saturday 6th January. Happy and safe Xmas season to everyone Liz. (Secretary) See more
