24.01.2022 The most important role models for children sit across from them at the dinner table. Healthy living, being of service and volunteering, self control, goal setting and most importantly, walk the talk - say what you mean and mean what you say. Back up your words with visible, solid action and be a person of integrity and value. Actions speak volumes. Well done is better than well said. Benjamin Franklin
23.01.2022 Support girls to raise their standards and champion their safety and well being. Together we can break the cycle of domestic violence. All proceeds from these stunning diamond pendants and leather brackets go to KYUP! Project from https://www.lizunova.com/collections/strong
23.01.2022 I’m so proud to know and meet great martial artists on this journey. Di Carn and Kate McAdam from Irontiger Taekwondo 2 x amazing women and many x champions in their sport. I was on the receiving end of their generosity of time and spirit with a demo for a group of marginalised teens in Kings Cross. The demo remains to this day, one of my fave KYUP! moments. Where did the time go?! Kate is also an Ambassador for the Pink Belt Project - supporting girls with scholarships in Taekwondo
22.01.2022 2 wrongs don’t make a right. Words my Nanna said to me that I still live by to this day #gratitude
22.01.2022 Such a brave and special little girl. This image was taken straight after she broke her first wooden plank. She teaches us that we are strong, resilient and capable of anything we set our minds to achieve.
22.01.2022 Small acts of kindness makes huge differences. It's not hard to put a smile on somebody's face or make their day. Let's keep the cycle going and give back with love and kindness. It's a beautiful world out there, let's keep it that way
21.01.2022 Only one more sleep until my SOLD OUT ‘ self worth and self defence community workshop tomorrow yeeee haaa!
20.01.2022 What Mother's Day means to each of us is so very different, and for every mother and child, and mother and partner out there, Mother's Day means something unique to us. For others, Mother's Day takes on a completely different meaning, and is in fact a celebration of their life or a reminder of who they were.
20.01.2022 There are no shortage of opportunities to talk to kids about consent without sex. I ask both my kids if they consent to activities for after school care not because I’m concerned of danger but because it’s a safe way to ask their permission about their bodies without exposing them to adult concepts they are not ready for. My girls are only 7 and 9 but they already understand a contract and an indemnity form. Sure I keep it incredibly simple but the point is, I ask for their permission and express consent. Love to hear other parent/carer examples.
19.01.2022 Looking at this picture and torn between remembering happy moments with the girls at One Arm Point, a remote school in the Kimberley alongside moments of deep concern, Every girl I met was awesome, without exception. It's easy to be a grown up and think girls are trouble makers or disrespectful and leave out the big picture. It's tough out there for teen. You and I know how awesome the girls are but for many but not every girl believed it to be true. Suicide rates for Indige...nous people across all age groups are more than three times that of non-Indigenous Australians, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. But when you drill down into age-specific data, the picture is much more disturbing. Suicide is the leading cause of death for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged between 5 and 17. It accounts for 40 per cent of deaths in this age group. Until last year, Indigenous youth suicide was specific to young Aboriginal men. In fact, in 2017, no suicides were recorded for Aboriginal women younger than the age of 15.

18.01.2022 Be bold and always stay true to yourself. Help others, give back without any expectations of receiving. Have the courage to stand up for what you believe! Never stop exploring and learning new things. There are no limits to growth and imagination. Love, Mel.
17.01.2022 It's never too late to start something new no matter what your age or situation! Starting a new career, relocating, doing something you've always desired or walking away from toxic relationships that no longer serve you. We get one shot at this life game, don't waste a single moment. You are stronger than you think.
14.01.2022 You can't have self defence without self worth. If you don't know what makes you worth fighting for you wont stand up for yourself or others. Because you're worth it!
11.01.2022 Behind our cheeky grins (sugar plum lips) there are a few home truths that I can't look past. I want to shine a light on what these gorgeous kids are up against in our own backyard. Suicide rates for Indigenous people across all age groups are more than three times that of non-Indigenous Australians, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. But when you drill down into age-specific data, the picture is much more disturbing. 10.01.2022 Twenty years ago I walked into a martial arts class with zero intention of ending the cycle of violence against women and children, I didn’t even know I was in a cycle of violence. Born into family violence with a front row seat to unhealthy relationships. Bullied in high school, because of the family violence at home. I stood up to the bullies by joining a hardened inner city gang. No longer the victim, I became everything I didn't like about the people who had hurt me. It ...wasn't long before I found myself running from the gangs into dysfunctional relationships with controlling and abusive young men. At 19, I met a guy who was different. Craig was educated, well mannered and picked me up in a car that wasn't stolen - big ticks! On our 3rd date, he takes me to watch a Hapkido martial arts grading. I'll never forget sitting on the floor of a stinky gym all dressed up watching this guy show off. I knew I should be impressed and I couldn't believe it, I was ... by the women! Using their voices, standing their ground and defending themselves against multiple attackers. I'd never seen anything like it. I had to know, could I protect myself too? Until that moment it never occurred to me that I could. So I begin training. I don't know my feet from my fists but I love it. For the first time in my life I feel accountable, respectful and strong. I found a place without judgement. A place I belonged.
07.01.2022 It’s been a roller coaster ride since winning the Cosmopolitan Game Changer Woman of the Year. The award was voted by the public and I am proud to say I didn’t have one single paid vote although I had a group of great mates who voted for me every day. I don’t spend much time looking back but I do reflect on a path that wouldn’t be possible without the people who have been in my corner. Feeling love and appreciation for my tribe today
06.01.2022 Sharing some images from my latest trip to beautiful Broome! The colour of the earth is so beautiful it can only be described by the naked eye!
03.01.2022 So proud of my little girl and her choice to take up Hapkido. Parents tell me all the time ‘they want’ their kid to practice martial arts. I get it. I wanted my girls to train too, but it’s not my choice to make. The commitment and courage Chloe will need to demonstrate to raise through the ranks will be her journey to own. My role is simply to cheer her on and offer myself up as her most loving crash test mummy!
01.01.2022 I have a very exciting announcement to come and it involves more than 9,800 Australian schools. I don't want to jinx the campaign but I'm one of those people who practically implodes when I have good news and can't tell the world! Big smiles at KYUP! HQ this week!
