10.01.2022 Dec 1 ...thirty years ago, we opened the doors of the Melting Pot Glass Studio with that zany good fella, Kent LeGrand, (who stayed in biz with us at Boodjidup Rd studio till 1996). So we’ll be celebrating our continuing journey in glass with photo stories from the last 30 years throughout December. Our love and thanks to all who have worked with us from 1990-2020 in any one of three versions of our #hotglassstudio, the #glassgallery, or the wider world of #artglass over thes...e three decades. Our grateful acknowledgment to those who have supported and backed us, collected or sold Gerry Reilly Glass Designs and more recently those who’ve tried their hand at a #glassmakingexperience Most especially our love and thanks to our three amazing adult children (imagine putting up with never having your parents free in school hols), our dear trusted friends, and our much-valued backers and patrons (you know who you are ... family, friends and colleagues), whose incredible support has kept us going while we found our feet, upgraded to a new furnace , survived a chaotic gas crisis, family tragedy or changed direction. This is the stuff of small creative business ... it’s the angels in the wings who have helped us stay aloft We have weathered GFCs and Covids, highpoints and disappoints, hot glass personalities and warm melting hearts. We’ve met kids and elders, artists and collectors, corporate and gallery colleagues, and delighted holidaymakers. Each interaction has placed another pebble in the pot, in the crucible that holds the molten glass from which Gerry’s gifted hands create the form and colour and light upon which we thrive and survive. We thank you all for the trust and belief in us as a partnership and a team. It’s been a wildly creative ride thus far and we aim to keep evolving the melting pot for many years to come And to Margaret River community, our ongoing love and commitment to all grow alongside, in both our work and home life ... we’re dug in true and proper and here to stay With longtime respect to the Wardandi elders, past, present and future, whose gnwirri boodjara we continue to live, love and work on and receive huge inspiration. 02.01.2022 Another busy January week flown by ... the highlight for us was a visit by Mayumi Virtue (née Shimotori) who joined us many years ago (back in the early 2000s) as a young Japanese glassblowing exchange student, back in our Boodjidup Rd studio days. As a mother of two, Mayumi hasn’t been glassblowing for four years now but she stepped back in the saddle without hesitation and made a glass. So rapt to see her and meet the family ... a beautiful Japanese chapter revisted in our 30 years of the Melting Pot, and she brought news of Tamaki, our second glassblowing exchange much love to you both and huge thanks for your contribution to the studio in the time you shared with us xox
