24.01.2022 A small group visited Blackwood for a 9km car shuffle walk starting at Kangaroo Track on O'Brien's Rd, turning right at the water race & following it to Gribble Track & a visit to the tunnel for a leisurely lunch, some paddling & even a swim into the tunnel with a camera for one of the braver guys. After lunch there was a short climb back to the water race where they continued as far as Amblers Lane & followed Amblers back up to O'Brien's & a car. You can lengthen the walk by approx 2.5km if you walk back to Kangaroo Track. A really pleasant day with wild flowers still flowering on mass and paddling at the tunnel was just the best, so happy to be back hiking

22.01.2022 This is a great solution to shoelaces that come undone, I've been doing it for awhile now and it really works, thanks Caro Lotsafreshair

19.01.2022 For those who like a good 'ol legs workout, Mt Abrupt - Grampians... The crew took on this one Tuesday, and though it is 'only' a 6.3 km walk, it is a solid climb, and LOTS of stairs. The vegetation changes significantly along the walk, and the views just get better and better until you reach the top. This one was definitely a worthy adventure!

18.01.2022 Important survival tips we all should know and live so take 3min, watch and learn

18.01.2022 A fantastic multi day hike I completed in 2 separate trips, the changes in terrain, stunning views and plenty of opportunities to cool down with a paddle or swim make this hike a real winner, definitely put it on your list for 2021

18.01.2022 WALKS PROGRAM: Due to the COVID-19 restrictions our activities program has been suspended from 9 July 2020. For more information on our Club please visit our website at www.meltonbushwalkers.org.au

15.01.2022 The Otways has long been a place for nature lovers, and walkers to explore. And this writer and some of the crew managed to get down there over the weekend Waterfall lovers, can make a it a solid days walking if you do Triplet falls, do the side trip to Little Aire Falls, then Hopetoun falls, and with a worthy stop at the Redwoods will give you 10km on the step counter. And you will see plenty of amazingness along the way too :-) (Beachamp falls is also in this area, but currently closed)

15.01.2022 Some great walks listed here... https://amp.theage.com.au//waterfall-walks-shake-off-lockd

14.01.2022 Down the Mornington Peninsula, the walk to Bushranger Bay (5km return) is lovely. Extending this then to Cape Schanck (13km) will certainly get the heart pumping. This is a truly beautiful coastal walk, and exploring the rocky outcrop, and views to Pulpit rock (Cape Schanck) is one of this writers most favourite places. Can do this any time of the year, but the warmer weather affords you the swimming option once you get to the water (if that tickles your fancy :-P) ... https://www.trailhiking.com.au/bushranger-bay-cape-schanck/

14.01.2022 Well if you want your fill of GREEN.... Badger Weir picnic area, and the 2.5km loop up to the weir. (The weir itself is nothing spectacular, but boy oh boy is the surrounding area

12.01.2022 Near Blackwood this morning :-) Melbourne Storm Chasers

12.01.2022 The easing of outdoor group sizes brought out a big group of hikers for an 11km walk at Long Forest, commencing from Happy Valley car park the group followed an undulating track to Long Point and back, a really great day spent in nature reconnecting with old friends and making new ones

12.01.2022 Magical Mount Macedon, and now we can all get there once more :-) Plenty of trails to suit all ages and fitness. Climb Camels Hump - an energetic but short climb to watch a spectacular sunrise, you may even see a Koala up there :-). There is Sanitorium lake, 250 meters each way, The Cross and the views from there. Days Picnic Ground, and the trails the lead from it. You can spend half an hour, or half a day, maybe even treat yourself to some scones at the cafe up there :-P... Longer walks include, Camels Hump to the Cross and return - 10km (Easy/Medium grade). From Days Picnic to the lake and return - 3.5km (easy grade) Full circuit starting and finish at the Pub - 20 odd km (medium/hard) I never, ever regret a visit to this wonderful place.

08.01.2022 This just isn't good enough, be safe, look after our environment, the animals as well as human life by always putting your camp fires out and never leaving them unattended... did we really learn nothing from last summer?

06.01.2022 Getting kids on the trail.... We all know how good bushwalking is, and it great if you can get kids involved, and excited in walking too. I have found some activities I thought I would share, that are some great ideas to encourage kids to appreciate nature, have some fun along the walking trail. (And you don’t even have to be a kid to do enjoy some of them too :-) )...Continue reading

05.01.2022 Toolangi - out past Kinglake, is this incredibly beautiful place. The short boardwalk alone (500 meters long) makes this place worth the drive, for the more adventurous, the Myrtle Gully circuit (8.5km) or the Tanglefoot Loop (9.5) are both beautiful walks. the even more adventurous could combine the 2 together. Graded medium, they are both a gradual climb to their respective peaks, and spectacular at every turn :-) Pics from Myrtle Gully walk Monday.

05.01.2022 I'm sure everyone saw the strange marshmallow storm clouds this morning, they're actually mammatus clouds, what an amazing display, thanks Victorian Storm Chasers for the explanation... Mother Nature is awesome!!

05.01.2022 Bushwalking Education: this is a pic of the rubbish one of our members picked up yesterday in Lerderderg Gorge between Grahams Dam and McKenzie's Picnic Ground. The 1st bushwalking rule I was taught was "leave no trace" which means take your rubbish with you and if you can't carry it back out don't take it in the first place. Also, for those that don't know, please don't use and discard wet wipes in the bush, they're made from plastic fibers and don't break down so please to stick to regular tissues and use a small hand spade to bury them. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about this, please comment and share your thoughts, how do we educate better to stop this littering in our beautiful bushland environment?
