22.01.2022 It's NAIDOC week and throughout the week we will be featuring artworks from The City of Melville collection by Laurel Nannup, a senior Noongar artist. Laurel Nannup's personal memories are portrayed through numerous artworks in the City’s collection and several works are currently on display at the Goolugatup Heathcote in the Collections Gallery. Laurel is a member of the Stolen Generation and uses printmaking, specifically woodcuts, linocuts and etchings as her pr...imary mediums for storytelling. Her artworks feature bold line-work and contrasts, to tell stories of her life, from her time at the Wandering Mission to visiting New York later in life. Laurel Nannup's art is also held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Berndt Museum of Anthropology and the Museum of Contemporary Aboriginal Art in the Netherlands.
