21.01.2022 I am currently at my daughter’s cattle station an hour north of Julia Creek in north Queensland roughly a 20-hour drive from Brisbane where we live. Thanks to Membo Noticeboard, I am completely connected with what’s going on with my 93 year old mum’s care. For those who don’t know, mum lives with Alzheimer’s dementia and has spent the last 2 years in independent living as a direct result of us creating Membo, our online noticeboard system. What I’m finding is worth its weig...ht in absolute gold has been the ability for mum’s cleaners, nurse and care workers to upload a quick Attendance Note to the online Family Hub BEFORE they leave her place with an all’s well or to let us know about something that needs attention. I have peace of mind knowing I am fully up to date, without my absence adding any additional pressure on the team who are ensuring daily life and the resulting stability, continues for mum. See more

16.01.2022 Just in case you missed it, here is the link to my episode of Millionaire Hot Seat: https://www.9now.com.au/millionaire-hot-seat Darn those Grenouille! Eddie McGuire’s mother who died recently, lived with dementia, so it was a really proud moment for me to be able to tell him about MemBo Noticeboard and how we’re helping people to retain their independence and dignity, and give families peace of mind knowing that loved ones are receiving the care they deserve. He agreed how v...itally important it is to educate people about dementia. What an honour to have this conversation on national television, and to help us to continue the conversation destigmatise dementia, and support Dementia Australia and other organisations that work tirelessly to provide education and support. Diagnosed with Younger Onset Dementia at the age of 59, John is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met, and now works tirelessly here and across the globe as a dementia advocate. 03.01.2022 This is one of the most powerful videos I have seen to help people understand the challenges faced by people living with dementia. As I've said so often before, dementia is everyone's concern. 1 in 3 of us will be diagnosed, and one of the other 2 will become a carer. There is not enough knowledge in the general community about dementia, and without knowledge there cannot be understanding, support and change.... Take a moment now to understand how life looks and feels for someone living with dementia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz8ACEu7Lho
02.01.2022 What do you look for in a Residential Aged Care Facility? 01.01.2022 In the Netherlands, the number of older people in residential aged care has been reduced from 7.5 per cent to 3 per cent, bringing it in line with the European average. There are two reasons for this shift, older people prefer to stay in their own homes, and it saves money.
01.01.2022 *Resource of the month* November’s resource of the month is a spreadsheet that I started building when the number of contacts and pieces of information I needed to keep track of my mother’s affairs started to get out of hand - electricity, phone, bank accounts, payments, receipts, My Aged Care - all with a different contact person and login. Here’s the link: https://bit.ly/35vTZEj... It has been invaluable for us - I hope it helps you too.
01.01.2022 I have almost completed the Uni of Tasmania’s Understanding Dementia MOOC. As a primary carer, I am finding the course to be hugely relevant in terms of what my mother is going through both physically and emotionally and in terms of what I myself am going through. As a service provider with our MemBo Noticeboard assistive technology, the MOOC is also providing invaluable information that will help us work with our clients, their families, and with home care teams and residential communities. I will share an overview of each module, but if you can, I highly recommend taking the online course yourself. It’s stimulating, poignant, helpful and informative. Here is the first overview: https://bit.ly/3hpWeM8
