18.01.2022 FIRE THREATENS DIRTGIRLWORLD AT CAMIRA CREEK Dirtgirl has been a darling of ABC TV for more than a decade. She wears gumboots, grows tomatoes and ...drives a big orange tractor. Her home, ‘dirtgirlworld’ at Camira Creek, north-west of Whiporie, is under threat today from the Myall Creek Rd, Bora Ridge fire. The creators of the award winning show, Cate McQuillen and Hewey Eustace, have evacuated their property twice in the last week. They left knowing that their home and 'dirtgirlworld' may not be there when they returned. "There was a sense of urgency when we left that I think pushes some of those emotions to the background a little bit because you know that you need to be out of there safely," said Ms McQuillen. "I always say that we have to react to the truth and at the moment the truth is that 'dirtgirlworld' is still there, still sitting there waiting, it's been protected and guarded and looked after by people who are absolute experts at this. "I do really trust that there are people who know what they're doing, they're looking after it, and people who would get in their way are not there, which is a hard decision to not be there, it really was, but it was the right decision." : dirtgirlworld/facebook

14.01.2022 A message from Cate and Hewey, the creators of dirtgirlworld and Get Grubby TV. Dear Tribe, Saturday March 7 fully launches a big change in dirtgirlworld. It's ...change that was seeded back in September last year and that we have slowly and carefully nurtured. We whispered it at Woodfordia. In front of the eyes of the audience there on New Year's day, a new generation of dirtgirlworld inhabitants evolved .....were born to carry our story...our heart song.... into the next decade and beyond. ( very DrWHO-like). The original generation bowed gracefully and joined the dirtgirlworld elders...forever family. We have spoken elsewhere of the great and enduring love we have for Maree Lowes and Michael Balk. But if you missed it...it's undeniable. They have been the heart and soul of dirtgirl and scrapboy for over a decade. They have hugged your children (and you) at live gigs. making themselves your family. They've been in videos and posts and on our screens with stories of fun and love and hope and inspiration...and joy! They are our like our children, as well as our creative collaborators and will be missed deeply by Hewey and I. But we know that all things have their season and after so many years, other things called and I am sure, like us, you only want the best for them. We'd love it if you showered them with thanks and love in the comments below. We found ourselves at cross-roads and decided that we weren't finished telling this story, creating this world connecting with you all. That our work needed to continue and to grow. So we made a decision to embrace a new decade with a new team, new adventures and new direction. We love bold stuff...and this is bold stuff! So we let you know we were going to be changing. Maree and Michael created the videos for the audition call outs. They wore their hearts on their sleeves and called out with so much love. and so many answered We openly auditioned for our next dirtgirl and scrapboy and over 400 beautiful people put there hands up to be considered. We took our time and with great love and respect we found our next dirtgirl and scrapboy. I happily honour them and let you know who they are here and now but I will not speak their 'human' names often again... We are overjoyed to welcome Rhea Robertson and Benjamin Hambley to the dirtgirlworld family. In a story that is a fictional reality we have always been very careful about speaking of the 'humans' of dirtgirlworld. This is in most part to protect the magic and authenticity for our key audience - children across the globe - who truly believe that dirtgirl and scrapboy are real...and to all of them and most of us they are. dirtgirl and scrapboy haven't left the building .They are being energised by two new souls. There is another reason too. These two are true grounded protectors of the planet...carriers of the storyworld that many of us in the dirtgirlworld team collectively create. There is real power in this community, it is unique and bit weird but it works. I hope that you can come along with this endeavour of ours.... this morphing allows us all to continue the dream we started and the work to bring hope and positivity and fun to the world. I invite you to welcome dirtgirl and scrapboy 2.0...(3.0 if you count Hewey and me) and to be as positive as you can for the changeover, especially as they are stepping into the world and performing for our children... let's elevate them in these early days and grow the next generation of dirtgirlworld, together. You are always kind and generous, respectful and caring of each other. It's no lie that we are known as the happiest place in Facebook land There will be some baby steps but you know that you can trust us to have picked two incredible people to keep dirtgirlworld alive and to grow it and build it and help it flourish at a time, more than ever, that we need to look for solutions together and tap into the collective hope for a bright future for children now and to come. with love, as always and forever Cate and Hewey

10.01.2022 We are home. It’s a very strange feeling. We are so happy and grateful to see our home but so sad to see how nature is suffering. As we all saw on that incredib...le drone footage of the fire at dirtgirlworld.. behind my house is burnt. Behind scrapboy’s house is burnt. The mound, our potting up area and edge of our garden is scorched. The incredible news is that our homes and our garden were saved! And I say saved because that is what happened... it was saved. Not lucky , not missed by fire ... saved. The fire came very very close to my houseclose to the chicken house ( who were not there). The fire was fierce and accounts are that dirtgirlworld shouldn’t have survived but it didbecause it was saved! Here are some pictures for you to see what happened . Next, I will post a huge thank you message and i would love you to wait to add all your thanks to that next post. so everyone who helped can read our thanks Of course we are holding space for everyone still threatened by fire and for all the families who have lost their homes and for all the creatures that we have lost or who are also homeless. #NSWfires #NSWRFS #dirtgirlworld

08.01.2022 We are living in a fire zone and have been on alert for months. Tomorrow is a day we need to be prepared for. If you are living in a fire zone too, I have writt...en your kids a special letter. Hi it’s dirtgirl here. In dirtgirlworld today, like in so many places around Australia we are doing things to prepare for bushfire. We have a drought in dirtgirlworld so it’s very very dry and hot here. Is it like that at your place too? I thought I’d share with you some ideas to keep us safe and calm if we are faced with a bushfire emergency. Living in the bush, Scrapboy, Costa the garden gnome and I have a very thorough fire plan to protect dirtgirlworld. Our gutters are cleared, we have raked and removed all the leaves around dirtgirlworld, we have packed away all the garden tools and moved the firewood and compost and mulch away from our houses. We also have a plan that we will follow to protect ourselves and our animal friends. We know that the most important thing is being safe When there is an emergency, so much can happen at once and it can be scary. A Bushfire is really noisy, it smells strongly of smoke , the world feels very very hot and sometimes it can get very dark. Often there are sparks and embers. Not being near a bushfire is the best idea but sometimes we are surprised by bushfire. If that happens here’s some of my top tips for what to do in a bushfire emergency. When it is an emergency pop on your emergency goggles! and switch them on! They aren’t real goggles they are pretend but they help me focus on what to do to stay safe. Remember who the emergency captain is.that’s the person in your family who is giving the emergency instructions . Sometimes it is more than one person. Look at them. Listen to them and act as calmly and as quickly as you can. We have chosen scrapboy as our fire captain this time. He knows our fire plan and I trust him. It’s good to be prepared. Fill your water bottle with water. Choose some snacks and fruit pick some fun stuff to play with later your fav teddy or small toy some clean undies and pjs and some clothes for tomorrow and a card with your contact details on it. Pop them all in a back pack Have a practice wearing it and crawling down low or walking to the front of the house .or running with it on. Your emergency goggles give you an energy boost to carry your backpack on your own. If you have to evacuate your houseevacuate is an emergency word for quickly leaving your house or school.it’s time to stay calm and follow instructions. It’s all about staying safe. To keep calm, I talk to myself I say 'I can cope, we've got a plan, we know what to do, it's just one step at a time'. And I keep saying that to myself , it helps me to be calm to know we have a planI can say it as many times as I like. However, I make sure I stop talking to myself to listen to my family fire captain and follow instructions. And the other thing I do is that I slow myself downI try and take slow breathes. Want to give it a try? if we have to evacuate, I make sure I have my own back pack, and we follow our plan to get to safety. Being safe is the most important thing. Our things can be replaced, we can get new things, being safe is what we need to remember. I hope that none of you have to use any of these top tips but I am happier knowing we have had this chat. Scrapboy, Costa the garden gnome and I, are sending you all our love as well as well as our top tips. Be safe! love from dirtgirl I've also filmed two videos today for families today You can check out my videos here https://www.facebook.com/dirtgirlworld/videos/688980468178026/ https://www.facebook.com/dirtgirlworld/videos/487539185184412/ ABC Rural 1 Million Women Australian Red Cross ABC Australia Costa Georgiadis Official The Climate Council NSW Rural Fire Service NSW RFS - Northern Rivers Zone Kinderling Kids Radio ABC News ABC North Coast ABC Mid North Coast ABC Central Coast ABC Central West ABC Radio Australia ABC Gold Coast Keep Australia Beautiful Planet Ark Kidspot Guardian Australia Huffington Post

04.01.2022 The face touching thing! I've been super itchy from bitey bugs that turned up after the big rain. I try not to scratch or touch my face but I must say its a dis...cipline. scrapboy found a doll arm with chubby soft fingers in the broken-bits draw, that we tea tree-ed and I used her chubby fingers to touch my face...it was super easy to train myself to not to that heheheheh. ...it was so weird and hilarious! Here's some other, possibly more useful tips to talk about at home with your tribes. Have you got any tips for kids too? ( positive only please) Thank you to The Oatmeal for this... you can download the pdf here https://s3.amazonaws.com//touc/touch_face_less_oatmeal.pdf #

02.01.2022 It's Earthday on Wednesday (one of my favourite days of the year) and I have come up with a simply beautiful idea for us to remind the world how much we love ...the earth. Although we may be staying at home, we are still keeping an eye on the earth...caring for it...the big home that houses our homes! The idea is that you take a picture where you and your eye and nature star together...keeping an eye on nature...on the earth...keep the EYEdea simple...like these ones below . On Wednesday pop in here for our Earthday Party and share it on my special Keeping an Eye on the Earth, Earthday Post. or tag it #KeepingAnEyeOnTheEarth #Earthday2020 and I'll find it Love dirtgirl!
