25.01.2022 Just over 18 months ago, Memory Lane was involved in supplying lights for the Espy Hotel in St Kilda. It was a great job to work on as the owners, (Sand Hill Road), were a great group of people to work with and they did a fantastic job of not only restoring this Melbourne Icon but making it one of the top venues in the Country. Its sad to think that since this Covid 19 virus upset all our lives,The Espy and so many other pubs restaurants and music venues have had to remain closed with many people out of work and owners without an income. Lets hope we continue to record low numbers of infections and get these venues open & buzzing again.

19.01.2022 Memory Lane has been dealing with the Traditional Hardware Company, (now named Tradco), for more than 20 years. Initially we purchased traditional style lighting from them and when another supplier in the area closed up we added their range of Traditional Style handles, switches & hardware, mostly in Polished Brass, Chrome & Antique Bronze finishes. Today their reproduction hardware is still a big seller for people needing to replace broken fittings but now they have also mov...ed into more contemporary fittings & finishes to suit the modern lifestyle. They have released 15 new handle styles which are done in 9 different metal finishes including new ones like Matt Black, Polished Nickel, Satin Nickel, Rumbled Nickel and the newest finish Satin Brass. They have also done many of the old fittings such as locks, pull handles & door stops in the same finishes. For more images see our website www.memorylane.net.au See more

17.01.2022 Decorating styles are constantly evolving. When we 1st began our business back in the 1980s, Victorian & Edwardian decoration was in vogue and lots of heavy wallpapers & curtains were added to houses to replicate the look of those periods. These days the decorating is a much lighter style, generally a French Provincial or Hamptons style and with these style there is a need for a lighter looking door hardware. At first Brushed Nickel was all the rage but the latest finish is n...ow Satin or Brushed Brass finish. Initially there was little available in this finish but suppliers have now caught up and the range is quite large. We have put together a board of the Satin Brass products that are now available and it looks quite stunning. If you are after any Satin Brass hardware products contact us via email [email protected]. We have a website but are working on a new site which will be online soon www.memorylane.net.au See more

16.01.2022 At Memory Lane we are continuing to work while we can albeit with social distancing & sanitising requirements in place, (no more than 4 people in the shop at one time). Our suppliers are still working as well and have put in place all possible sanitising procedures. Most of our suppliers are interstate but freight is still moving between states at this time so we can usually get deliveries in within a week and some suppliers will send direct to customers properties. Check our website for our suppliers websites and you can order via our email addresses. Stay Safe everyone.

08.01.2022 As building practices change they present new challenges to Memory Lane as we adapt to provide answers for our customers. Not so long ago sliding doors for bathrooms would be wide enough that the door could stop when fully open, 150mm from the door jam. This left space for a flush pull and a privacy snib. I the last few years, sliding door opening have become narrower and so the door now goes back into the cavity so that it is flush with the door jam. This requires something ...on the edge of the door to enable the door to pulled out of the cavity. If you want a privacy lock, it can't be wider than the cavity. Our suppliers have come up with solutions to these challenges, We can now offer a round or square, sliding privacy unit. It can be ordered in a Matt Black, Polished Stainless Steel, Stainless Steel, Brass or White finish. As well there is a more standard looking, rectangular flush pull with a built in privacy lock that is available in Matt Black, Bronze, Satin Brass, Chrome & Satin Chrome finish. 07.01.2022 Early last week we received an urgent call from Designer Eleisha Gray, (www.eleishagray.com) who is currently working on the new Fortress Gaming Room at Emporium in Melbourne, (www.fortressmelbourne.com). Would we be able to make a frame, from brass rod, to support some banners for Fortress Melbourne, oh and I need it by Thursday & and I need 2 of them in an Antique Bronze Finish please? At first our heads exploded and then we began thinking, perhaps we could put something to...gether. I quick rummage through our parts tub & then through our suppliers catalogues and we were away. The parts were quickly supplied, so it was all hands on deck as they were stripped of lacquer, polished and coloured. Then we had to thread some rod, (after we had made a tool to do this) and begin assembling the 2 banner frames. After a few false starts when components would not go together we were able to get one frame together and then colour match all the components. A late night and an early morning and we were able to complete the job by Thursday morning ready for them to be hung that day and they came up a treat I must say. See more

06.01.2022 At this stage we are still operating and supplying our customers with the goods they need, delivering directly where possible. We are taking further measures to take account social distancing, the latest is to lock the front door and minimize the numbers in the shop. We thought we should use something appropriate as a door bell so we have installed one of our solid brass ship's bells in a chrome finish, a nice ornament to have by your front door. Contact us via email [email protected]

02.01.2022 Memory Lane is still open for business supplying builders & renovators with the items they need to complete their projects in these trying times. If you have trouble getting into our store at the moment, then have a look at our website where we have many images of the items we stock as well as links to our suppliers who have many more images to view. Despite being busy filling customer's orders & assembling lights, we have begun to introduce some more contemporary style of hardware into our range in line with the style of housing of today. As well as stocking a large range of period style hardware we now have hardware in a variety of finishes to suit the Hamptons, French Provincial and Contemporary styles.
