19.01.2022 Memories of Holland Evert was born in 1940 in Holland, just three months before the German Nazi military invasion of Holland in the early stages of World War 2. His father was Dutch and his mother Jewish. This life story, written by his wife, is about Evert’s recollections of living under enemy occupation as a small child, growing up in post war Holland, immigrating to Australia and his professional and personal success later in life. The book concludes with a return trip to ...Holland 75 years later. Not all life stories are happy, this story is powerful, raw and confronting. This is certainly a story that needed to be told- for Evert to be able to verbalise that which had been internalised for so long, and for his family to learn something of his experience as well as what happened to their extended family. Kathy worked on this story at my Thursday Life Stories classes. She had a good idea of how she wanted to structure the book from the start. We discussed the idea of adding contextual information and fine tuning the flow of the story as well as adding illustrations drawn by Evert from his memories, and photos.
19.01.2022 We have so much to learn about and from our ancestors. We will never learn about all 4,094 but to research - a grandparent's experience in war, a great grandparent's experience emigrating to Australia, a 5 x great grandparent's struggles as an early settler- will enrich your life and give you some idea as to who you are and how you came to be living the life you now live.
11.01.2022 2022 'FOCUSED' FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH GROUP I am sure all family historians can relate to this. This year at our family history class we are going to focus on being FOCUSED. ... A strong focus makes a project more manageable. A small, finished project that we can share with our family is better than volumes of paper and facts that may never go beyond your bookshelf. Your focus will be on a person, place, family or line. If your family history research is currently broad, come along and join our Family History Research Group. Third Friday of the month 10am - 1pm $15.00 Kellyville Contact me for more information or to book in.

05.10.2021 SILENT NIGHT The European nations were ending the fifth month of the Great War. All along the Western Front, battles had morphed into trench warfare. No army seemed to have an advantage, and the air smelled of death. Then suddenly, on December 24, 1914, everything changed. Soldiers on both sides seemed overwhelmed with thoughts of Christmas. Longing even for a moment to escape the horrors of war, local truces broke out spontaneously all along the front. In one area, a Germa...n infantryman, Hugo Klemm, and his fellow soldiers chose two Christmas trees and began lighting candles. The sight made an unforgettable impression as lights illumined a world that seemed so hopeless. Klemm later wrote, At darkness we marched forward to the trenchesAll was quiet. No shooting. Little snow. We placed our Christmas tree in our dugoutWe placed a second lighted tree on the parapet. Then they began to sing Silent Night. The sound echoed across the fields, as the thoughts of the armies turned toward Jesus. Years later, one British soldier commented, I shall never forget it. It was one of the highlights of my life. The power of Christmas was so strong that these bitter enemies laid down their arms. Extract from https://inspiration.org/daily-devotional/silent-night/
19.09.2021 YOUR STORY IS WRITTEN, WHAT NEXT? Writing your life story takes time and commitment. What do you do with your story when you have finished writing? Do you want to share your story with family and friends? Do you want your story to be passed down to future generations? A well presented story is more likely to be kept and passed down. You could present your story in an album format with text and photos. I sell a kit including an A4 album, instructions and all you need to put an album together. Alternatively your story can be presented in a book format. One or more books can be printed for family and friends. Here are some of the books I have put together for my life stories students. If you are interested in getting your story printed for family and friends, contact me for a quote.
