24.01.2022 Mid October highlights of IRFS garden
14.01.2022 The Ospreys at Illawong are doing well - there are 3 chicks. After about 5 years of failures, hopefully all three will fledge. Is this the first time ospreys have succesfully bred in Sydney?
12.01.2022 More photos from MWF RFS Garden.
11.01.2022 Calytrix tetragona at Royal National Park after flowering has finished - only calyses remain.
09.01.2022 Slow motion video of adult osprey bringing fresh fish to its chicks
08.01.2022 Stunning display at the Grevillea Park of dwarf banksia spinulosa with a large specimen at the top. A great effort from the Grevillea volunteers
08.01.2022 Someone has stolen two of our native beehives. One from the Illawong Rural Fire Station garden and one from our adjoining compound. Very disappointing. People usually respect the Rural Fire Services too much. The hives were similar too this one without the white tape. The theft has been reported to the police.
07.01.2022 Oatley Flora and Fauna recently listened a speaker who discussed the impact of coal mining in catchments. If you are interested, the link below lets you find out more.
07.01.2022 Visited the Illawarra Grevillea Park today. A great selection of native plants.
07.01.2022 The Birdlife Australia Bird Count officially starts tomorrow. Why not join in this fun citizen science project. It doesn't need a lot of expertise and will help give a picture of our changing bird populations. All the details are at https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ where you can download an ID app for your phone.
04.01.2022 Elaeocarpus reticulatus Blueberry Ash at Illawong.

03.01.2022 We love Australian plants but also all our wonderful fauna. Check out some weird Australian animal myths - some of them true, when the ABC researchers dig out the facts at https://www.abc.net.au//quokka-babies-daddy-long-/13188740
02.01.2022 Interesting explanation of spinifex rings. https://www.abc.net.au//spinifex-hole-mystery-a/100083850
02.01.2022 Went for a stroll on the Pink Trail at Barden Ridge yesterday and, despite the high ambiant temperature, was rewarded with some flora and fauna sightings including that of a Peregrine Falcon.
01.01.2022 Last week Menai WfG donated a tray of Pink flannel flowers (Actinotus forsythii) to the ANBG. Curator David Taylor accepted them with enthusiasm. If all goes well they will form a centerpiece of the Summer display of sandstone species.
01.01.2022 We have also donated Pink Flannel Flowers (Actinotis forsythii) to the Mt Annan Botanic Gardens. The horticulturalists were pleased to receive them and thanked the team for propagating them. Lloyd unfortunately couldn't make it so Greg was deputised for handover. Mt Annan garden is looking looking beautiful with colourful displays featuring Kangaroo Paws, Paper Daisies and Native Hibiscus to mention a few. A few of us took the opportunity to wander round.
