09.01.2022 As of TODAY major changes are being made to the National Immunisation Program with Pneumococcal vaccines for seniors and Meningococcal B vaccines for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (ATSI) and high risk groups. These infants at 2, 4, and 12 months of age will be vaccinated. An additional dose at 6 months of age is required for ATSI infants with specified medical risk conditions. Introduction of the vaccine will be supported by a catch-up program for all ATSI childre...n aged under 2 years until 30 June 2023. For seniors, without risk conditions for pneumococcal disease should receive a single dose of Prevenar 13 at age 70 years. This age of receiving a dose of pneumococcal vaccination for older Australians has been moved to age 70 years from 65 years because pneumococcal disease is much more common in people over 70 years of age than in people aged 6569 years. Vaccination from 70 years of age will provide better protection as people move into older age groups with increasing pneumococcal disease risk
08.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day and it is a very important day to ensure your family members, colleagues and friends are in a safe place mentally. Diseases like meningitis and meningococcal/pneumococcal can bring on added mental stress for the patient and for family members. If you know of someone having a personal struggle try and find the time today and or everyday to check in on them and ask them R U OK?
