25.01.2022 Next week our boys will be participating in the MOB Academy Biathlon to cap off an amazing final term. This challenge will put their mental and physical strength to the test consisting of 5 legs - run, swim, run, swim and run. Students can choose to compete individually or in groups of up to 5. Leading up to this event all gym sessions have been focussed on getting the boys ready to confidently tackle this challenge. 24.01.2022 The 24 hour Capri Paddle is an annual event held to raise money for Men of Business Academy, a school for Year 11 & 12 boys who have disengaged from mainstream learning. We will be paddling around the Isle of Capri for 24 hours followed by a charity luncheon at Edgewater. All money raised will help with the purchase of two new school buses to ensure we can get our 95 boys to various locations for camps, activities, appointments and excursions. 24.01.2022 We love celebrating our boys and all of their achievements and today we are celebrating Jack! So far this term Jack has accomplished the following: Completed a School-based traineeship with Event Cinemas. Received this Certificate III in Business. Completed his RSA Certificate.... Working part-time at Kurrawa Surf Club. Received his P licence. Average grades increased from D’s to B’s. We are very proud of your hard work and dedication, Jack. 23.01.2022 MOB Academy Year 1, Term 4 has closed its final page. Yesterday was a monumental day for all of us as we look back and reflect on what has been achieved over the last 7 months and celebrate the incredible accomplishments of every single student who has walked through our doors. In true MOB fashion we did graduation a little bit differently, here’s the run down:... We kicked the day off with the student biathlon, an event our students have been training for the last several weeks and it paid off. It takes a lot of grit to push through when you are mentally and physically fatigued (that summer heat didn’t help!) and we are so proud of each and every student who participated. Our graduating students then got the awesome opportunity to ride with the Gold Coast Hogs. This was an incredibly unique experience for every student and staff member. To the Gold Coast Hogs, thank you for your generosity and professionalism - it truly was an experience none of us will forget. After a beautiful American style lunch catered by Prestige Catering we celebrated individual students with a handful of awards to acknowledge areas where they have shined over the last several months. A big congrats to the following boys: Culture Nathan and Lil T Sports Rocco Effort Bob Most improved Ethan MOB Success Jordan and Milani Attitude Slayde and Jai Academic Haami Arts Jaylan Respect Joseph MOB Award - Alex Following this we surprised the students with a dessert table to devour and each graduating student was given a MOB dog tag to represent the family they will be a part of forever. 2020 was a year with so much ambiguity and confusion, and yet, despite everything, we achieved so much more than we could have ever hoped. Having 5 brothers and two sons he found it easy to relate to the core objectives of MOB. ... Dan is a lawyer and philanthropist, being heavily involved in charity work with a significant number of charities on the Gold Coast. He could very easily identify the need for an institution to be more directed to disengaged youths which were seemingly becoming more and more prevalent in our community. He lives by the idea that there is always room for improvement in everyone. The older I get the more I am reminding myself that life is all about perspective, there will always be greater and lesser than yourself, and while it may be important to be mindful of others, you always need to be thankful for what you have in life and its wonderful worth. Helping youth to transition from school into the workforce is extremely important, not only for their personal growth and ultimate ability to support themselves, but also as they become contributors to society, their family and broader community. A common concern held by many young Australians is that they do not have the required experience to enter the workforce, yet that experience can only be gained by being employed the MOB Suc...cess program addresses this problem. These boys are given the opportunity to experience the workforce and understand the expectations from bosses in the real working world. We take the Theory of School and turn it into the Reality of Work through exposing our students to a variety of different industries. Last week they had the opportunity to visit a work site with local construction powerhouse Stokes Wheeler. 08.01.2022 Have you ever wondered why the letters of our logo are incomplete? Our brilliant designer Phil from CSQD explains. The idea to build the MOB Academy started from people or men and women in the business community donating/buying bricks. The idea was that these bricks would be the building blocks for the Academy. For as long as I can remember it’s always been about building the Academy, building better men, building a better future, not just for the boys but for the commu...nity in which we live. So, as a designer I wanted to tell that story (visually, yet simply) of the ‘building aspect’ of the MOB Academy. When we design a logo, it’s not just about what looks good, we try and tie all aspects of the business, the story and the people behind the business while also attracting the right audience with the look, and feeling of the brand. 03.01.2022 The Men of Business held its inaugural Graduation this week, after completing what was a spectacular first year as a new School on the gold coast. Jackson... from my office attended on my behalf due to Parliament sitting in Brisbane. I just want to remind people of what is a truly remarkable timeline of events that has seen MOB grow into what it is today 1 November 2018 The school was first mooted 2 MOB needed to raise over 800K to make it happen 3June 2019 Their license was granted and they needed to bring a space, teachers, staff and students together by April 2020 4 March 2020 COVID-19 struck Australia, but they persisted with the opening 5 Since then, 90 young men have benefited from a great first year I am so impressed with how the school balances core education, with life skills and training, sport and extracurricular activities that are equally relevant, fun and social for these boys. Having seen many at the start of their journey, its great to see what has already been achieved in one short year A massive shout out to Marco and Jason on what they have created and to the many benefactors, teachers, mentors and other supporters that bought into the vision and that have made year 1 such a success.
