25.01.2022 Nothing says December like an overgrown, ratty moustache! Thanks @movember for another fun filled November raising not only money but awareness about men’s health issues. We’re all getting better at it (even getting better at growing moustaches!) but must continue to talk, share experiences and support our brothers out there to wrk towards a happier and healthier male population! More of the end of month mos to come.... #movember #pharmacy #pharmacist #menshealth #urology #moustache #beard #brothers #prostate #prostatecancer #mentalheath #livelifewell #heretohelp @coolemancourtpharmacy

24.01.2022 For anyone that might be scrolling the socials, today is World Pharmacist Day! How about that?! And I think this year, with everything we've been through (dust/smoke/Covid) its nice to reflect on the role of the pharmacist within our community; and indeed the broader community. So to all my fellow pharmacists out there, idly checking Facebook in your free time, happy World Pharmacist day (and get back to your patients!). To our patients and friends give us a like and help ke...ep us motivated :) Thanks Pharmacist Brad

22.01.2022 With so many of us limiting their non essential trips outside we know that many men are putting off seeing their Doctor for their general check ups. What we also know is that prostate cancer isn’t going to wait until all of this is over. The take home message is to get out and see your GP and continue having those regular checkups to make sure everything is in order. Do yourself a favour - put it on your to do list ASAP! ... What is a PSA test? It is a blood test to help detect inflammation of the prostate. This gives your doctor an idea what’s going on. PSA is a protein made only by the prostate gland. Some of it leaks into your blood, but how much depends on your age and the health of your prostate. Who is at risk of prostate cancer? If you have a family history of prostate cancer If you are of black ethnic origin If you are overweight or obese Pros of having the blood test: It may reassure you if the test result is normal It can find early signs of cancer, meaning you can get treated early Cons It can miss cancer and provide false reassurance It may lead to unnecessary worry and medical tests when there's no cancer It cannot tell the difference between slow-growing and fast-growing cancers It may make you worry by finding a slow-growing cancer that may never cause any problems Is there anything I need to know before doing the test? 1. You should not ejaculate 48 hours before the test 2. You should not exercise heavily 48 hours before the test #prostate #prostatecancer #pharmacy #pharmacist #lifelivewell #urology #urologist #generalpractice #gp #checkup

22.01.2022 National Stroke Week 2020 - be a FAST Hero and #Fight Stroke - Control your Cholesterol High cholesterol, contributes to blood vessel disease, which often leads to stroke. When there is too much cholesterol in the blood, it can build up on artery walls and narrow the arteries. It can block the flow of blood or cause blood clots in the brain leading to a stroke.... Speak to your doctor or health professional about your current cholesterol levels and what you can do to reduce your risk of stroke. Diet changes, exercise and medication can all lower your cholesterol. #fightstroke #strokeweek2020 #pharmacy #pharmacist #pharmacylife #lifepharmacy #heretohelp #weknowwhatmatters #intern #hearthealth #stroke @strokefdn

20.01.2022 It’s a wrap! November and @movember are all done and dusted. You’ve now seen all of the MHDU pharmacists sporting their moustaches. We’re really proud of the extended teams efforts with so many of our MoBros and MoSistas getting in and raising some serious coin and awareness along the way for a great cause. As we near our $10k goal (we’re at $9500ish) we’d encourage anyone wanting to donate to hop in and do so. Thanks so much for all your support. 19.01.2022 Saturday night testicle check up! Klinefelter syndrome is a genetic condition that results when a male is born with an extra copy of the X chromosome. Klinefelter syndrome is a genetic condition affecting males, and it often isn't diagnosed until adulthood. The reason it’s worth checking your testicles is because it may adversely affect testicular growth, resulting in smaller than normal testicles. This can then lead to lower production of testosterone. The syndrome may also ...cause reduced muscle mass, reduced body and facial hair, and enlarged breast tissue. The effects of Klinefelter syndrome vary, and not everyone has the same signs and symptoms. Most men with Klinefelter syndrome produce little or no sperm, but assisted reproductive procedures may make it possible for some men with Klinefelter syndrome to father children. So check your testicles and if they don’t seem normal check in with your GP #klinefelter #menshealth #pharmacy #pharmacist #pharmacylife #mhdu #urology #andrology #testies #testicles

19.01.2022 male infertility? read on // Klinefelter Syndrome is the most common cause of hypogonadism, a condition that stops your body from producing sperm and testosterone. Testosterone is the major male sex hormone which is needed for normal reproductive and sexual function. This means that, if you have Klinefelter Syndrome, it’s likely that you’re infertile. Small testicles (about the size of a grape) after puberty are a strong indication of Klinefelter Syndrome. Other symptoms of K...linefelter Syndrome, which sometimes but not always occur, include: *Taller than average height *Reduced facial hair *Reduced body hair *Reduced muscle strength *Breast development *Osteoporosis *Feminine fat distribution (e.g. on thighs) *Varicose veins *Low energy With more and more couples having fertility issues its important to remember that around 40% of the time its the male that may need assistance. 17.01.2022 Thinking of those this year that are alone or not with loved ones for so many reasons; sending love and keeping you in our thoughts. Whilst for many Christmas is a time of celebration, relaxation, family and friends, for so many of our community it’s not all it’s sunshine and rainbows. So this year, consider checking on your neighbour, calling a friend or even donating to one of our local charities that are putting on a feed for those in our community who would otherwise go... without (not just a feed but the companionship which is so much part of the Christmas spirit). And if you need a yarn come in and see one of our lovely pharmacist team #westoncreek #westonact #coolemancourt #pharmacy #pharmacylife #lifepharmacy #heretohelp #livelifewell #xmas #christmas #community @coolemancourt

13.01.2022 1.5 million Aussie men over 18 year of age (approx 16%) self report that they are experiencing mental health issues. 1 in 8 males experience depression. 1 in 5 experience anxiety at some stage in their lives. 6 out of every 8 suicides are males. Men die on average 4.4 years younger than women. But the good news is that with some fairly minor adjustments men can improve these statistics: *30% of a mans overall health is determinded by his genetics - 70% is controllable through... lifestyle improvements *Inactive men are 60% more likely to suffer from depression than those that are active *Men who sleep 7-8 hours a night are about 60% less likely to have a fatal heart attack than those that sleep 5 hours or less *Getting the 5-7 serves of fruit and veg is as simple as 1 glass of orange juice, 1 potato, 1 big carrot, 1/2 an avocardo and a pear *Drinking more than 10 drinks a week almost doubles a mans risk of developing type 2 diabetes For further information see https://www.beyondblue.org.au/ and of course get in touch with your pharmacist or GP #menshealth #mentalhealthawareness #pharmacy #pharmacylife #pharmacist #livelifewell #heretohelp #menhealthweek

11.01.2022 #Research #Matters Studies show that not all high-grade prostate cancers are the same. A recent study of Gleason grade 5 prostate cancers found that different p...atterns of gene expression made some cancers more aggressive than others. It's an important finding that may contribute to different treatments for subgroups of prostate cancers - enabling clinicians to intensify treatment for more deadly types of the disease. 10.01.2022 Testicle check! #feelingNuts Although quite rare, testicular cancer is the most common type of cancer in men between the ages of 15 and 35. Like other cancers, it is most easily treated when found early. Checking your testicles regularly helps you to spot any changes quickly. The three basic steps are: *Hold one testicle between the thumbs and fingers of both hands and roll it gently between your fingers *Look and feel for any hard lumps, or smooth, rounded bumps, or any ch...ange in the size, shape, or consistency of the testicles *Repeat with your other testicle It’s worth noting that normal testicles also have blood vessels, supporting tissues, and tubes that carry sperm. Some men may confuse these with abnormal lumps at first. If you have any concerns, ask your Doctor. We really like the video by CheckOneTwo produced for their #FeelingNuts campaign on preventing testicular cancer https://www.youtube.com/watch

04.01.2022 It’s been a wet weekend here in Canberra and our roof seems to be experiencing a little bit of a light leak!! And this last point for most blokes is really important. At men’s health downunder you pads are $8 a box and pants $12 and when you buy 5 your 6th is free. You can’t get better value... than that Thanks lads! Stay strong, stay positive and hang in there! 04.01.2022 Like to talk about it or not men need sanitary bins in their toilets too. With an estimated 1.23 million males suffering with incontinence it can be a real impediment on a trip out of the house when you can’t discreetly access a bin. It seemed so logical when we learned about the program the Continence Foundation of Australia were planning - a program called BINS4Blokes. The program aims to create awareness around the need for these bins for men along with marketing and a re...gister of where these bins are located. If you think your workplace/shopping centre/sports stadium or other business or public venue would benefit from male sanitary bins please make it known and of course speak with the BINS4Blokes team - see BINS4Blokes.com.au Help make your community more friendly to men with continence issues #continence #incontinence #men #male #maleincontinence #pharmacy #pharmacylife #livelifewell #prostatecancer #prostatectomy #dunny #toilet Cooleman Court Pharmacy Cooleman Court Shopping Centre
