24.01.2022 Today was a special day, Mens Outreach Service Aboriginal Corporation (MOSAC) had the opportunity to meet with The Hon. Ben Wyatt, The Hon. John Quigley and Pri...nciple Policy Adviser to Minister Wyatt - Howard Pederson. It was a great opportunity to showcase the hard work our teams are doing across the Kimberley. MOSAC and the teams very much appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedule to hear about our programs. We wish both all the best in the upcoming election and hope to cross paths again. Have a great weekend everyone :)

21.01.2022 Thank you to the fine fellas at Mens Outreach Service Kimberley for all their help setting up for the Gala today! Very proud to be donating funds back to this ...incredible and innovative local not-for-profit service. They deliver an invaluable level of support for the men (and often women and children) in our community and they should be congratulated and recognised for the effort they put into addressing the impact of violence in our region See more

02.01.2022 FITZROY CROSSING WINS AWARD Congratulations to Kimberley Mental Health and Drug Services (KMHDS) for an outstanding project involving the youth and Elders of Fi...tzroy Crossing to realise their hopes in building a stronger community. The aim was to reduce drug and alcohol consumption and suicide amongst youth by encouraging alternatives in times of stress. The community led Standing Strong Project was the brainchild of local Gooniyandi woman Deborah Carter. KMHDS has worked closely with Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services and engaged the services of Indigenous HIP HOP Projects who worked with the kids to produce the video and Gilimbaa who designed the posters. Local youth took part in a hip hop video and there were workshops at the high school. Elders spoke to youth on the importance of language, culture and talking to family and friends to support emotional wellbeing, this was then made into a series of posters. Postcards with emergency contacts and calendars have also been made to share the positive messages. Elders from all language groups were involved in sharing their stories in a safe space and opened up to discuss how suicide and alcohol / drug use had affected their families, communities and themselves. Some Elders recorded their stories to share with their own families to open up further conversations. In the time since the project began until June this year more than half of young people in the Valley reported using alternatives to drugs and alcohol in times of stress. Well done KMHDS and the Fitzroy Community and congratulations on winning the award in the category of Mental Health Promotion or Mental Illness Prevention at the annual Mental Health Service Awards of Australia and New Zealand.
