24.01.2022 Unfortunately, during COVID-19, we've seen cases of domestic violence escalate across the country. Our little town is not immune to this problem. Do you suspect someone you know is in an abusive relationship? Here are some of the signs to look out for: they seem afraid of their partner or always very anxious to please them they often cancel plans at the last minute... they seem afraid something may make their partner angry they stop seeing friends or family they stop their phone calls when their partner comes into the room their partner continually phones or texts when they are out of the house their partner is ‘jealous’ and ‘possessive’ and accuses them of seeing other people their partner seems overly attentive, remains constantly by their side or is watchful about who they talk to they have become anxious or depressed, quieter and may have lost their confidence they have bruises, sprains or cuts on their body that they says are 'accidents' their partner controls the family's finances, gives them no access to money or they must justify every cent they spend their partner controls their activities, the way they dress or their contact with friends and family they say their partner wants them to leave their job their partner ridicules or insults them publicly or you sense volatility in their comments their children's behaviour has changed they appear frightened or exhausted If you recognise some of these signs, ask them gentle questions like "is everything okay at home?". Respect their boundaries if they don't want to talk, just let them know you are there for them. Don't tell them what to do or blame them for staying in the situation. Reach out to support lines like 1800 RESPECT. Most importantly, look after yourself. This is a stressful situation to be in. You can always stop in and see us to chat or access free counselling, or we can refer you to free psychologist appointments.

22.01.2022 Have you met Gail? She's one of our newest superstars! Gail first came to us a few months ago with her son and found that Bridging the Gap was a great place for people to get help, with everything they needed to move forward in life. She felt so welcome and had such a desire to learn new things, that she kept coming back every week as a volunteer team member. Now, she's part of the family!... Gail says that she leaves on Thursday afternoons and she can't wait to come back on Tuesday morning - and that's what makes her so special. Thank you for everything you do Gail, we appreciate you! Please join us in welcoming Gail to the team by leaving her a message below :-)
20.01.2022 When was the last time you had a really good chat with someone? We know how hard it can be. There’s never enough hours in the day, you don’t want to burden anyone with your problems and it can be awkward opening up. ... But making time to talk is really important for your mental health. In fact, it’s a lifesaver. It’s #mentalhealthmonth this month, and we want to challenge you to make the time to talk and tune in. Meet a mate for a surf. Walk the dog with your wife. If you’ve got a friend in need, pick up the phone and reach out to them. If you don’t feel like there’s anyone around you that you can talk to, give us a call or pop in to see us at 183 Rose Avenue. We are always here to listen, with an open ear, and open heart.
20.01.2022 Thanking you Luke, it's an awesome song to share..

12.01.2022 IT'S TRUE! Looking after your mental health doesn't have to be scary, involve awkward waiting rooms or cost you a thing. We hold casual, stress-free and cost-free lunches three times a week, so you can grab a bite to eat and chat to others about what's going on. If you'd rather just listen, that's okay too. We don't judge and we don't have any expectations. If you know someone who could use some encouragement to have a chat - share this post - it could be the inspiration th...ey need. It's #MentalHealthMonth and we're chuffed to have the support of WayAhead - Mental Health Association NSW to help deliver communal lunches this month. Thank you

11.01.2022 You might recognise our lovely mate Andy, who has been coming into see us for over four years! Andy is a talented poet and business owner, who has just started a new micro-herb business An Eclectic Bunch. We thought you'd like to hear one of his remarkable poems: Clears my head... Standing alone on the river's edge, The moonlight's reflected from the water's caress. Alone with my thoughts, well I drift away, As I take a walk down that old memory lane. Of the times gone by, both good and bad, Where I've been and what I've had. I often wonder, when it will end, And just how many were my true friends. Now I try to keep my feelings well hidden from view, So much forgiven and forgotten too. That's why I'm alone on the water's edge, The water's caress, Well, it clears my head. Thank you, Andy, your words always transport us and we are so grateful you share them with us.
