25.01.2022 Cessnock Men's Shed will not be open from Thursday 19 December until Thursday 9th January. Shed members will be attendance doing various tasks throughout this period. No further jobs will be undertaken until we reopen. Messages through messenger will not be responded to until after January the 9th. 2020. Merry Christmas and happy new year.

24.01.2022 Here's an activity not much acknowledged in the garden section, we have a team who propagate native plants. Many of these plants go to local schools. Also the council takes them.

24.01.2022 Another step forward in the BBQ renovations. We now have a sink complete with drainage, hot and cold running water. It will make a huge difference when we finally start having BBQs again. Remember Shedders, this sink is only for use for catering and definitely NOT a general purpose item.... Thanks to Noel Findley, Garry Taylor, Geoffrey Gray and Peter Rodowicz. The next job is the serving counter, a fence with gate followed by lights.

24.01.2022 The Tool Chest.... Well it's as close as, to being finished, and it will be true asset as we will finally have everything in one place at last. The tool chest is also mobile so it can be moved to what ever area it's needed most in. Sadly it has to be locked, not because anybody steals things, it's just because they use things and fail to return them. So frustrating when you reach for a spanner!

23.01.2022 One of our new members, Justin, he's busy making some dies for our hand roller to bend 1" RHS. It will be a valuable asset.

23.01.2022 From this to this: January 2020 through the Covid struggle to present day, September 2020. 8 months at half a day once a week. Frustrating for a high achiever. Makes me wonder when we will get the opportunity to cook some snags, hopefully we will have a Christmas party, not holding my breath though. We will have lights to cook under by then, wouldn't it be nice on a summers eve! Twilight snags, yummy.

22.01.2022 Today, Friday the 20th. December 2019, we once again catered for the Christmas BBQ at NET modular Rutherford. Cessnock Men's Shed and Garden provided 13 willing hands for duties on the BBQ, setting up, serving, cleaning up and returning our gear to The Shed. We catered for around 160 staff members and once again all went smoothly, we are getting quite practised as this stuff now, and it was a pleasure to help out NET as they've helped us out through the year. Thank you Net an...d well done once again Shed members. https://netmodular.com.au/

22.01.2022 We are well into summer now and the gardeners are doing a marvellous job of keeping things alive with hand watering. Our president is delivering his morning tea presentations with the aid of a bull horn. With John Sharples in the foreground. Some shots of the gardens as they stand at the moment. You will notice our blue tree, "It's okay to NOT be okay", fighting depression in older men. Lot's of things go on at our shed.

21.01.2022 Progress on the BBQ, we may be slow but we're relentless, no goofing off! It's marvelous what can be achieved under restrictive conditions. This BBQ renovation was begun right at the very beginning of the pandemic and we've just kept slugging away one day a week at a time, 4 hours each go, and now we're entering the final stages. So far we've extended the whole BBQ and covered area, installed a sink with hot and cold running water, lights over the hot plates and now tiled the... bench top with tiles donated from; "Paint Place and Tiles, Cessnock" https://paintplacecessnock.com.au/ Thank you for that very generous donation and your community spirit. 17.01.2022 Towards the end of the Covid isolation and working under strict protocols some of the members have been engaged in renovating and extending the BBQ and servery. As they say, there is always a silver lining to every cloud and this has meant minimum disruption as most members were not on site. This has involved removing a garden bed, installing support posts, constructing the roof structure, attaching second hand sheeting and fitting guttering. Noel is up the ladder taking the main support, Geoff on the roof with Garry passing roof sheeting, the extension showing the full length and inside the existing BBQ waiting for the new concrete floor finishing with the view from outside the gate.

16.01.2022 The BBQ "pit" is coming along, now with the addition of the wash basin, plumbing to follow.

16.01.2022 We seem to be catering for larger and larger BBQs these days, so a decision has been made to enlarge the BBQ "pit". This will entail building an extended roof, plumbing to a sink for washing up, and of course a new concrete floor. Here's two photos of the posts installed today (Monday 2/3/2020) We found two pipes in the ground and a number of tree roots, made it hard work to sink some holes, and will probably be even harder to excavate for the slab. Never mind, it will keep us off the streets. Progress photos to follow.

14.01.2022 Cessnock Men's Shed and Garden have a wide range of skills and activities including a sign maker, here's one example of a whole batch of signs made for the Great Lakes Marine Park. This one is located at the boat ramp at Hawkes Nest, N.S.W. Well done team.

11.01.2022 Our Shed champion for 2020 is Will Brigham, (yellow shirt) pictured here with our secretary Col Chapman.

10.01.2022 Guess we've been a bit quiet, I hope you are all coping and look forward to the future.

10.01.2022 Christmas BBQ at The Shed.

08.01.2022 Arriving at Cessnock Men's Shed early morning, closed and monitored gate, questionnaire completed, temperature taken

08.01.2022 It was great to catch up with local members of the Cessnock Men's Shed this morning to celebrate receiving grant funding for a new defibrillator and first health training. Well done!

06.01.2022 Another community project Cessnock Men's Shed helped with. https://www.youtube.com/embed/muKQa9jJCDM Enjoy.

04.01.2022 Daryll and Peter finishing off the fence extension. Many people have been involved in this, each sharing his skills and knowledge. They are Noel, Garry, Mel, Scott, Peter, Daryll, Col, Terry and the list goes on. Typical project at The Shed, everybody lends a hand.

04.01.2022 We've made more progress on the BBQ extensions, but it's soooo frustrating working under Covid restrictions. We can only do half a day once a week makes any projects very slow to finish. Anyway, here's today's work; installing timber bench slats and we managed to put a stringer in for the under bench covering. You can also get a better idea of the internal layout now. Still a fair way to go, then we have to have a chance to use it all. God knows when that will be. Be well, be safe, Noel.

04.01.2022 One of our shed members has a talent for making wooden models. I've attached some photos of his work which he's done at his home workshop. Well done John, nice jobs.
