25.01.2022 Walk For Awareness supported By @tessa_group Sunday , 11th of October 2020 Register now - walkforawareness.org.au Welcome ladies and gentlemen to a short series of the mental awareness foundation asking questions about what do people do for their own mental health during these interesting times. Today meet Brendan Tutt one of the owners of Tessa Group our major sponsor for the last four years in a row. In the last 10 years of been involved in mental health awareness, one th...ing I have truly learnt is taking the time out for yourself, and insuring that you focus on recharging your batteries for your own mental health . @walkforawareness @qldmentalhealthweek @mentalawarenessfoundation

21.01.2022 For those who are struggling with mental illness, it can be difficult for them to articulate their feelings... let alone the thoughts they have going through their heads. So if you ever find yourself in a position to help, may it be through a listening ear or uplifting words, don't hesitate to extend it. While their journey to healing may be long, it can give them a sense of hope knowing that someone sees them and is rooting for their recovery.... You can also join us on 11 October 2020 (Sunday) for Walk for Awareness here: https://hubs.li/H0w2yGF0. 21.01.2022 The Mental Awareness Foundation has been very fortunate to receive so much support through the years. And for that, we thank all of you. This year, our mission continues. Through your help, we are able to support charities that work directly with different communities, raising awareness about depression and mental illness while supporting the preservation of life. We do this by delivering exciting and informative experiences and events - one being our flagship event: Walk for... Awareness. Your participation in these activities - donating, volunteering, and attending - then support various organisations that work on the frontline of mental health support. It goes beyond the distance we walk and the events we do. It truly reaches far and wide, thanks to you. 19.01.2022 Those who suffer from mental illness often find that they're in a tug-of-war with themselves. Constant internal dialogues that contradict each other; feeling good now and bad the next second. It is truly a difficult burden to carry, especially when you don't feel safe expressing it. As a result, a lot of people who have mental illness tend to hide it and present themselves as if they are okay. That is why we need to be more empathetic and connected with those around us. Just ...because they don't "look" like they are carrying a burden does not mean they aren't. Mental illness does not have a "look". The notion that an internalised illness must be externalised is wrong and certainly does not help anyone. So, if you come across someone who might think this, take it as an opportunity to educate them on mental health. Explain the issue and how they can contribute to ending the stigma. The less we are afraid to share what we know with others, the more we are able to spread awareness. #MAF #mentalawarenessfoundation #MAFwalk #selflove #speakup #support #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention #seekhelp #taketime #findyourunwind #live #learn #love #QMHW

18.01.2022 Suicide Prevention Pathways is one of the organisations that the Mental Awareness Foundation is proud to support. We caught up with Shana Challenor, CEO of Suicide Prevention Pathways, to talk about their programs and how they raise awareness about suicide in our communities through individualised coaching, mentoring, training and education. Their approach is to provide organic care, compassion, and support to people who are contemplating suicide - or to their family and frie...nds. And because of your support for MAF, we are able to extend help to Suicide Prevention Pathways so that they can continue their programs and reach out to even more people going through hardships. 17.01.2022 CHECK IN ON SOMEONE TODAY An important message we come across often especially during #SuicidePreventionMonth. And we understand that the follow-through can be tougher than it sounds. You might worry about how to approach your friends or even embarrass them by asking how they're doing. You may be unsure of what the best way to reach out is. Should you do it over text? Would they be okay with a call? An email? These are valid questions. Checking in does require a little thou...ght and planning. But with preparation, you will be able to support those around you thoughtfully. Here are some tips on how to start. Be relaxed. Choose a quiet location with no distractions. Express your concerns warmly. Ensure a safe space for them to open up by asking questions like "How have you been?" Do you have tips on how to check in with someone as well? Leave them in the comments and let's help each other reach out. Join us in raising awareness about mental illness and the issues and stigma surrounding it. 17.01.2022 It is sad to think that there are many suffering from mental illness in silence. Unfortunately, this is the reality for them. Due to society's lack of awareness and education on the issues, conversations about mental illness itself aren't normalised. Therefore, those who are experiencing it feel like they aren't free to talk about it or ask for help. 16.01.2022 According to data provided on the eSafety Commission, "1 in 5 Australian young people reported being socially excluded, threatened or abused online." Cyberbullying is a harmful behaviour that has repercussions for those on the receiving end of it. It happens online through different streams such as email, social media, forums, apps, and many other communication platforms. It can take on different forms such as name-calling, negative comments (even those masked as sarcasm), ma...king false accusations or spreading rumors, stalking, and a number of other things that attack another person. If you are experiencing anything similar, please reach out and talk to someone. It may feel like nothing at the beginning, but it can unknowingly affect your mental health especially if the situation prevails. And always remember to be kind, EVEN ONLINE. Together, we can put an end to cyberbullying. #MAF #mentalawarenessfoundation #MAFwalk #selflove #speakup #support #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention #seekhelp #bipolardisorder #findyourunwind #live #learn #love #QMHW

12.01.2022 We dont normally post stuff like this but The Social Dilemma is probably worth watching as a family. Warning: Its freaky, but freaky good. There are so many great messages and pieces of education in this documentary film. But its important to realise how this is effecting everyone, and in particular our Gen Z, who are the ones being born into a world they wouldnt know without internet. Weve had young teens sending us messages about how they were being bullied on soc...ial media and told to go slit their wrists. As a kid, I was subjected to the same bullying but most of it was in person where I could somewhat defend myself, email was being introduced as I was coming out of this rough patch and at the click of a button this emotional rape spread like wild fire. It was awful then. I couldnt image how much more social media would both amplify the effects and seclude someone even further now. The suicide rates among teens since I graduated high school in 2001, are up over 100%. We love social media and the beauty it can provide but every addiction-tube has a negative side. This is a must watch to drive home a lot of information we may already be informed of, but (obliviously or not) choose to ignore due to the algorithm induced addiction to our devices. Thanks to the Center for Humane Technology and Netflix and so many others for widening our eyes, thoughts and hearts.

12.01.2022 Someone who's going through depression may sometimes feel like they are in a hall of mirrors - like the ones you find in funfairs. They see many different images of themselves as they walk further into it. And when they go too far in, it becomes hard to get out and identify the real them. That's why it may be difficult for them to articulate how they are feeling. It's because they could be trying to decipher multiple complex feelings at the same time. So if someone opens up t...o us, may we be all a little bit more understanding, a little bit more patient, and a little bit more kinder. #MAF #mentalawarenessfoundation #MAFwalk #selflove #speakup #support #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention #seekhelp #findyourunwind #live #learn #love #QMHW #raiseawareness #mentalillness

11.01.2022 Dealing with the ups and downs of bipolar disorder can be difficult for both the person with the illness and their family and friends. During episodes of depression, you may have to extend a bit of patience and understanding for a loved one who doesn't have the energy to meet responsibilites at home or at work. Know that your efforts and love play a significant role in one's treatment and recovery. Often, even just by having someone to talk to already makes a difference on th...eir outlook and motivation. Lastly, when caring for a person with bipolar disorder, don't forget to also look after your own needs. It's important to find a balance between supporting your loved one and taking care of yourself, so you can be an even better support system for them. On 11 October 2020 (Sunday), let us come together and Walk for Awareness to bring to light the issues surrounding mental illnesses like bipolar disorder. This event is happening at the same time physically and virtually, so you can participate wherever you are.
