21.01.2022 Today we were joined by five amazing women who helped us explore a ton of the documentary source material. Thank you mumma artists Jane Johnson, Aleks Crossan, Rose Kokkoris, Kym Weatherly and composer Jacky Collyer. To exhausted now to post all the pictures but soon. #motherload #couldsleepfordays #tasmaniantheatre #mummaartists #newwork

19.01.2022 Another messy wild fun ride on the set of the Mental - The Motherload short films that we are currently producing for release sometime early in 2022. For this shoot we put Bryony Isabel Geeves through her paces in the Mother Warrior contest and she came through with flying colours...or at least with extra colours on her face! We were privileged to be working with the professional makeup duo Kit and Culley who got full artistic license to do anything they wanted with their Mum's face, and doesn't she look magnificent?!

19.01.2022 MENTAL - The Mother Load is a creative documentary performance exploring the beauty, grotesque and poetic in the madness and mundane of motherhood. Stage 2 of the project (2019) was broken into 3 parts, PD for the core team, a significant period of research and creative engagement with mothers online and in-person plus core team exploring research materials through a period of creative development towards a first draft performance framework. This video shares some of the m...any words shared with us by mothers through both online creative encounters and in-person workshops. Filmed and edited by Rebecca Thomson Performer - Carrie McLean Voice Performances - Bryony Geeves, Melissa King, Carrie McLean and Rebecca Thomson

19.01.2022 For mummas out there wanting to start their own artistic residency, this one is great.

18.01.2022 Wednesday morning Julie will be on ABC breakfast with Jane Longhurst (not Ryk Goddard) about 7.30, talking about the shape the project has taken after our big year of research and engagement with mummas online and in person. Listen in, you might even catch some morning chaos with the kids having breakfast. https://www.abc.net.au/radio/hobart/programs/breakfast/

02.01.2022 We are excited to finally announce that we were successful in our application to the Regional Arts Recovery Fund for Stage Four of MENTAL - The Mother Load. This funding will support the team to regroup after our COVID break, our presentation of the live performance work in Launceston in 2021 and a suite of short films to bring the work to many many more mummas in the future.

02.01.2022 Filming with our highly professional Mother Warrior (or is that Warrier?!) sports commentary team yesterday for one of our Mental: The Motherload films that we are producing. Fun and chaos!

01.01.2022 So excited and grateful to be part of the Tasmanian Theatre Companies 2021 Season

20.12.2021 What a BIG but FUN day of filming parts of the 6 x Mental: The Motherload films yesterday. Many thanks to the mums of primary school aged students who came and sat in our (quite glamorous!) hot seat and had LOTS of random/weird/profound 'questions that kids ask' thrown at them. Gratitude to the mums who gifted us a lot of those questions based upon their real life experience - there was definitely some gold in there! A warm thank you to our empty nest mums who all brought in and shared with us a gorgeous photo of them with their kid/s. Was beautiful to sit in that space with you all. Stay tuned for more behind the scene updates on our filmmaking adventures. We look forward to sharing the results with you sometime early next year.

15.12.2021 We are looking for a couple more mums to join us in the Hot Seat this morning and answer ‘questions kids ask’. I had a go and it’s quick and painless, fun actually. If you can pop in between now and 11am come say hi at the SoHo Arts centre. Xx

04.12.2021 The extraordinary Rebecca Thomson is ready to dive into making our suite of six short films as a second outcome of The Motherload Project. The first opportunity to be part of these films (ie on screen) is coming up next Friday 19 November at the SOHO ARTS CENTRE Hall. We are filming small grabs for our PRIMARY and EMPTY NEST FILMS. For the PRIMARY film we are asking mummas to be in the "hot seat" and answer 'Questions Kids Ask' on camera. ... -> There is nothing to prepare and we just need you for approximattely 15 mins. For the EMPTY NEST film we would like mummas who have had at least one of their grown kids move out of the family home too come along with a photo of themselves with their child/children when they were younger. You could be a fresh empty nester or have grandchildren. -> We would like to film mums holding these photos, no talking required. We are asking mummas to book a time-slot so we have a rough idea of who is coming but there is no stress if you are running late or a little early. Each time slot is 15 minutes within the 2 hour block. PRIMARY 9am - 11am: https://www.trybooking.com/BVQWR EMPTY NEST 11.30am - 1.30pm: https://www.trybooking.com/BVQWV Please Note - this is an unpaid opportunity. THANKS MUMMAS

01.12.2021 Hi Mummas - Here is our next brain dump request to help us with our films Mums of Primary kids - what hard, funny, stange or tricky questions have your kids wanted an answer for?? (just the questions, not possible answers...) We have also set aside NEXT FRIDAY, 19th November to do some initial filming and we are looking for mums to join us for about 15 minutes each during the day - pencil in the date if you can and I'll post more info soon.
