21.01.2022 In remote learning Year 8 Art classes worked with air dry clay in place of ceramics. It can be quite tricky to sculpt. Then they had to be hand painted. Madelyn Top took up the challenge and one piece grew to a creepy, spooky installation, all created at home. Well done Madelyn. Your talent is scary. Happy Halloween to all!

20.01.2022 Diwali was celebrated by our school community last week. It was brought forward from mid November as VCE exams start this week. Over three lunchtimes the festival of lights was recognised with henna art, making rangoli chalk art and creating Diyas. Diwali has become a highlight of the student-led cultural program that includes Lunar New Year, Cultural Diversity and Harmony Week and the Lunar festival. We were fortunate that we were able to celebrate most of these together on campus in 2020. We hope that it promises our school community prosperity, happiness and good fortune especially for all the students taking exams in coming weeks.

18.01.2022 Our Aerobics program has had a difficult year with competitions cancelled or modified. The last event for the year was October’s Spring Challenge and though only open to soloists and audition participants there were some fabulous results. For something different coaches had a go too, including Head Coach and teacher Tess Molina. The results are: Students: Tara Ash, 2nd Junior Blue Singles; Alexandra Turner, 5th Stage 3 singles; Eve Crocker, 6th Orange Audition; Kasey Cutler, ...4th Orange Audition; Ashli Sali, 3rd Orange Audition; India Jones, 2nd Orange Audition and Hannah Walker, 1st Orange Audition. Coaches: Natalie Desylva, 2nd Old Skool Orange Audition; Rikki Andison, 1st Old Skool Blue Audition and Tess Molina, 1st Old Skool Orange Audition. 11.01.2022 It was ‘music to the ears’ of everyone in the music department that lessons can resume for individuals and small groups. Woodwind, brass and vocal students learning with their teachers in the same room had been on hold due to COVID-19. There is one restriction (more like a bonus at MGSC) classes have to be held outdoors. The gardens around the Nina Carr Centre are now a blooming beautiful music room with trees and flower beds providing interesting spaces to inspire music creation. A true ‘Green Room’.

05.01.2022 The school community was able to take time on Wednesday to recognise Remembrance Day. It was particularly poignant to have this time as COVID-19 has limited occasions for our student body to unite in this way. At 11 o’clock Samantha Martin, Middle School Captain, led proceedings over the public address system, with reflections on the sacrifices of our service people, playing of The Last Post, one minute of silence and then The Rousse. MGSC was also invited to lay a wreath at Beaumaris RSL's Remembrance Day ceremony. A special honour as attendance numbers were severely restricted. Thank you to Mya and Zali, two Year 7 Class Captains, for representing your school so well.

01.01.2022 A massive thank you to everyone to virtually attended our 2020 VCE Art & Design Show. It was an unexpected journey this year for all staff and students. We are glad that we’ve been able to appreciate and support our students who have worked so hard in Art, Media and Visual Communication Design, and were still able to exhibit their work in a brand new format and platform.
