05.01.2022 How we started ............Mentoring for New Graduate RN’s originated through many conversations with final year Nursing Students, who shared concerns about how they would manage as Qualified Registered Nurses. Worries about being fully responsible for their own actions in an unfamiliar work setting, along with remembering what to do and when, felt daunting. Knowing if they have the right skills to deliver best quality care for patients and whether they have the clinical kno...wledge to identify what patient’s need, were often expressed. In January 2018, a small group of newly Registered Nurses worked with me to develop the key content for this mentoring program and between February and July we progressed through the sessions, starting fortnightly, gradually moving to monthly sessions. We each learned more about ourselves and one another over 6 months, and importantly our professional growth has been exceptional. With my Co-Founders; Sophie Arnold, Caleb Fellowes and Shane Murray, the design and content of this small group mentoring program is testament to the importance of ‘focusing on what is relevant and meaningful’. Since then, more New Grads have joined and enjoyed the program! It is with everyone’s encouragement I am now promoting via FB. Looking forward to sharing and working with you in Mentoring.
