23.01.2022 There are still places available for this Friday's workshop to discuss the Premier’s Economic & Social Recovery Advisory Council recommendation to develop and implement a whole of population mental health screening tool for Tasmania. This is being run by Menzies and the Mental Health Council of Tasmania and we encourage you to become involved if you are interested and able to.



23.01.2022 Dr Kirsten Fairfax is a member of our cancer and genetics team and works in bone marrow failure research. She is also an experienced long-distance runner, which will come in handy when she takes part in the 2020 Road to Recovery fundraiser. Kirsten and ten other inspiring women will be running or walking 10kms per day from the 5th - 14th of November, totalling 1000kms, to raise money for cancer research! 17.01.2022 New research from Menzies today shows that turmeric was found to be more effective than a placebo for reducing knee pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. However, turmeric did not change the structural aspects of knee osteoarthritis, such as swelling or cartilage composition. These findings from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial were published in the prestigious journal, Annals of Internal Medicine. 15.01.2022 On the weekend The Australian featured one of our researchers, Professor Peter Dargaville, and his life saving technology which has recently won a prestigious Queen's Award for Innovation in the United Kingdom. OxyGenie’s patented algorithm technology was developed over nine years by a team of scientists led by Professor Dargaville, a clinical researcher with the Menzies Institute and the Tasmanian Health Service, and Dr Tim Gale, a biomedical engineer in the University of Tasmania's School of Engineering. It is now saving newborn's lives in 43 countries around the world. Congratulations to Peter and Tim and thank you for all your work!

'The Big Freeze has been a vital source of funds for research into MND over the past six years and Menzies Institute motor neurone disease researcher and FightMND ambassador Tracey Dickson urged the public to continue their support. Providing the best care possible and support for people with MND is essential, but we must continue to look for a cure, Professor Dickson said.'
