25.01.2022 EKKK CHRISTMAS IS LITERALLY 5 WEEKS AWAY! Christmas is my favourite time of year! I love giving gifts. And I absolutely adore spending time with loved ones. This year has been one of the toughest year yet for a lot of people. Especially local small businesses. This year will also be harder than ever to find those special gifts for loved ones, due to covid slowing down production and imports.... We are stronger together! 23.01.2022 Truth bomb ALL HAIR FADES TO A WARM TONE. It’s science people, we don’t make the rules No matter what home are products you use, no matter how strong of toner we use in salon, no matter how often you wash your hair, your light strands will turn warm over time. Why? Underlying pigment. . I’m going to get a little technical here. When we lighten hair, we expose the underlying pigment, which is usually red, red/copper, copper, copper/gold or gold (SWIPE to see second p...ic). No matter what lightening product we use, your hair will be one of those tones after we rinse your colour. This is why we use a gloss toner or colour after lightening to help counteract or change that underlying pigment. Some hair has naturally stronger underlying pigment (usually thicker or darker hair) that’s why it’s harder to get those hair types to a super light, clean blonde. Some hair is predisposed to losing cool tones faster (another truth bomb, no hair holds onto ash colours ) and there’s also environmental and physical factors that contribute too. . This brings me back to why we suggest a maintenance appointment in between lightening appointments to help counteract that warm tone, bring the previous colour back to life and save you time (and money ). . So next time you feel like your hair is a little brassy, instead of thinking your colourist didn’t do a good enough job, understand it’s NORMAL and a maintenance appointment is all that’s needed to revamp that hair! Sometimes we need a little heat to tame that frizz & style our hair. Weather you’re maintaining your curls with a diffuser, blowdring fine hair for va-va-voom volume or straightening for a sleek style. With repeated use, these heat tools can wreak havoc in even the most beautifully styled tresses.... What is Heat Protectant? Heat protectant is a product that reduces damage to your hair used before heat styling. (Note that i say it reduces not prevents). It’s often a spray, cream, or serum that you leave in your hair (damp or dry). Some products have additional benefits, such as combining heat protection with a leave-in conditioner or a styling cream. How Does Heat Protectant Work? Heat protectants add a barrier between your styling tool and your hair, sealing in moisture and fending off frizz. They also work to smooth the cuticle, making your hair look smooth and feel soft. Quality heat protectants contain ingredients like humectants (like panthenol and propylene glycol), which preserves moisture and blocks frizz; amino acids (like keratin) to strengthen hair and provide antioxidants; and natural oils and extracts (like aloe), which protect and seal the hair’s cuticle.
