25.01.2022 City of Melbourne curators have just requested that full tables should be covered tonight due to forecast showers tomorrow. Therefore Saturday home sides are directed to cover their wicket tables this evening by dusk. Hessian must be laid underneath to protect the pitch, with a single pitch cover also used where available. Saturday home sides outside the City of Melbourne must do likewise unless requested by their curator to only use a single pitch cover and hessian.
25.01.2022 COVERS must be left on this evening due to forecast overnight rain. Due to windy conditions, Saturday home sides should check this evening that their covers have remained well pegged and securely in place. The MCA website will advise on Saturday morning by 8am whether inspections are required at 9am. GOOD NEWS for clubs hiring grounds through the MCA ... the City of Melbourne has advised that ground rentals will be cut to 50% of the normal seasonal rate, rather than the 80% we anticipated, due to the difficulties that clubs have faced in fund-raising this season. This means that clubs on MCA-hired grounds will be billed $1500 for pitch hire per Saturday XI rather than $2400, and $1000 rather than $1600 per Sunday XI. Invoices to clubs should be out in the next couple of weeks.
24.01.2022 COVERS are not required tonight. Please check the MCA website tomorrow around 10am for covers directions for Saturday evening. ROUND 2 and Round 3 matches are 90 overs. Following new Cricket Victoria advice (attached), drinks should be taken after 15 and 30 overs in each innings, with sanitisation taking place then. UMPIRE PAYMENTS mostly went well in round 1. In one case an umpire has been underpaid and the clubs possibly involved will be contacted. Please ensure that your c...lub and grade are listed in the description when making payment. RESTRICTIONS on net use at training have been reduced to allow use by two groups separated by a net (see attached). These may be reduced further next week. CLUB Covid officers are asked to pay special attention to players remaining masked and distanced when off the field. This was the main breach observed last weekend and needs to be rectified.
23.01.2022 The COVID-19 documents on the Cricket Victoria website have been well received and well used by Cricket Clubs throughout Victoria but as we know not all cricketers, cricket officials and their families speak &/or read English. For this reason CV has developed 2 of the key CV documents in to 5 languages often used throughout various cricket clubs in Victoria Bengali, Pashto, Urdu, Hindi & Sinhalese. The documents are the: Player Commitment flyer (high level summary of key... do’s & don’ts) English version attached to show the flyer replicated Return to Play Guide (summary of the key match day requirements) English version attached Sample of Hindi Player commitment flyer attached (front page & Ok to Play poster has been translated) The 10 new documents (2 posters in each of 5 languages) are available for downloading now via the COVID-19 section of the website as a new section (scroll to the bottom of the page). https://www.cricketvictoria.com.au/clubs-support/covid-19/ Thank you to Rohail Akhtar for the assistance in getting these developed over the past fortnight or so and Nigel Hunt for getting these up on the CV website today. Please share these widely amongst your network for use by all clubs & Associations where other languages may be spoken by players, officials, families attending matches. Whilst 20 days in a row of zero COVID-19 cases in Victoria is great, we only have to look to South Australia to know that we need to remain vigilant. Hopefully these resources will assist those who cannot read the English posters previously available. Best wishes. Paul Milo Head of Member Services Cricket Victoria See more
22.01.2022 We've had a fair amount of feedback after round 1. Generally things have been positive and it seems that we're all pleased to be back on the park. There have been a few concerns raised around the COVID Safety Rules that are in place and some failures to follow them. While we acknowledge that some of these "breaches" happen because habits have formed over many years of playing cricket, it is extremely important that everyone is aware of what is required. I'd ask that you pleas...e make sure all your players are aware of their responsibilities. The MCA's COVID Safety Rules have been published on the Association's website. One major area of concern is around wearing masks and social distancing, particularly when off the field. Directives from Government and Cricket Victoria are clear when it comes to these requirements and its important that as an Association we comply. The Executive Committee takes a very dim view of teams not complying with these rules. While we acknowledge that some of these requirements may change through the course of the season, the following penalties will be applicable to teams reported for non-complaince with the COVID Safety Rules in regard to wearing masks and social distancing (please note that reporting officials are the standing umpires in a match, the MCUA appointed umpires observer and umpires adviser and any member of the MCA's Executive Committee): 1st report for a TEAM - Official caution issued by the secretary of the Association in writing to the club secretary and the captain of the offending team. 2nd report for a TEAM - 1 point deduction for the offending team 3rd report and any subsequent report for a TEAM - 2 point deduction for the offending team and $75 fine Again, please ensure that all players are aware of their obligations when it comes to the COVID Safety Rules. Best of luck to all this weekend.
19.01.2022 The MCA is a couple of umpires short for Sunday, and is seeking experienced players to umpire a match at full umpire rates. (Preferably players who have done the Covid Infection Control online course.) If anyone at your club can help out, please ask them to contact our Umpire Appointment Secretary John Sexton on 0419-102740 asap.
18.01.2022 Saturday home sides are asked to cover their pitches ASAP if they can get to them while they are still dry. Single-pitch covers with hessian are sufficient. If wickets are already wet, no covers are to be laid.
16.01.2022 Inspections are required at 9.00am at grounds with Saturday games. Inspection is mandatory for home captains or their representatives, and optional for away sides. At least two people must be present to remove covers with water on them. After assessments have been SMS'd, covers should be removed from tables to allow maximum drying of damp areas. Drying of covers must take place outside the playing area. Captains must SMS (not phone) by 9.30am to 0410-938191, stating their g...round and whether their view is to start on time, delay to 2.00pm, or abandon. Failure to meet this deadline by home sides will result in loss of toss and/or a fine. Good drying conditions should be assumed this afternoon in assessing start time. Players and umpires should check this website after 10.00am for information about delayed and abandoned games. Fitness of conditions will then be in the hands of the umpires and late agreements between captains to abandon will not be accepted.
14.01.2022 Mercantile Cricket Association begins this Weekend with Round 1 on November 14th and 15th 2020. With 12 grades, and all games played on Turf with at least one umpire, cricket is back on the park, but it will look very different this season, please see the Covid-Safe Rules below, and stay safe Mercantilers.
09.01.2022 Saturday home sides for Round 1, please be ready for the strong possibility that you will be required to cover your pitches tomorrow (Wednesday) evening due to forecast rain. A final decision will be sent by email by 4.45pm tomorrow.

06.01.2022 Congrats Mark Irving.
02.01.2022 COVERS are not in use this weekend. Home sides are reminded to rope off tables after their match. At Fawkner Park, home sides must display three Caution signs beside footpaths approaching the ground from the outside of the park. These must be stowed away after play.
