25.01.2022 Introducing Grace Farrell (Emily Neal) Emily is a Year 10 music student who has been involved in numerous productions and operas. Despite Annie being her first Mercedes production, Emily has taken part in productions with the West Australian Opera, such as The Cunning Little Vixen, The Nightingale, and Hansel and Gretel. Emily participates in West Australian Young Voices - WAYV, which is a choir run by Perry Joyce and Katie How. She’s attended singing lessons since the age of 6 and has danced for 12 years. Emily is ecstatic to perform the sophisticated role of Grace Farrell and can’t wait to be a part of future productions at Mercedes College.
23.01.2022 Introducing Annie (Ella Simpson) Ella is a Year 12 ATAR Drama and Music student who has been involved in many musicals at Mercedes College and for community theatre groups. Despite being in Year 12, Ella is the second shortest cast member. She loves dogs and is excited to be onstage with Lucy the golden retriever who is playing Sandy. Ella has sung and danced since a very young age and is thrilled to finish her time at Mercedes in the lead role of Annie. She aspires to contin...ue with musical theatre after she finishes school. Annie is a lovable character who has a knack for finding the positives in whatever situation she finds herself in. In the orphanage, the other orphans look up to her and she comforts the younger ones by telling them they must remain hopeful, that the orphanage is only temporary. Annie doesn’t believe she is an orphan. She remains steadfast her parents will come back for her and keeps the half of a locket left with her by her parents close to her heart. She will know they are her parents because they have the other half of the locket. The letter they left with her as a baby has been memorised by Annie. Annie often sneaks out of the orphanage to look for her parents and is returned to Miss Hannigan by the police every time. When millionaire Mr Warbucks decides to have an orphan stay with him for Christmas, Annie is chosen, and she develops a father-daughter relationship with Warbucks. He wants to adopt her, but she sticks to her belief that her parents will return. Warbucks helps Annie search for her parents, but only tricksters and crooks come forward, all motivated by the reward money. Warbucks uses the FBI to investigate and finds that Annie’s real parents died years ago. Annie somehow knew this must be true, or they would have come back for her. Warbucks and Annie look forward to a long and happy future together.

12.01.2022 Introducing Lily St Regis (Abbey Mattingley) Abbey is a Year 11 student, who is a musical theatre newbie! She is yet to perform in a Mercedes school production but is very excited to be involved and is loving working with everyone in rehearsals. Abbey has a background in gymnastics and dance, which has attracted her to the stage. She says, I have never sung outside the walls of my shower. Although I am nervous to take up my first leading role, I can’t wait to play the part o...f Lily! The character Lily St Regis is the whiny, airhead accomplice and partner of Rooster Hannigan (Harry Smith). Lily is proud of the fact she is named after the St Regis Hotel. The two characters play off each other and serve as comical antagonists in the story. They are both always seeking easy ways to make money and do not hesitate to steal and take advantage of others. Both Abbey and Harry share a close theatrical connection as their mothers are both Mercedes College Alumni and shared a love of drama together, performing in many musicals back in the 80’s.
