14.01.2022 Anna + Steve| The Heartbeat of Merchant & Maker From fine dining & high-end supermarket take away meals to working with refugees in a humanitarian context, it’s safe to say that Merchant & Maker is built upon years of experience from a varied range of industries. ANNA... Motivating 60 volunteers? Easy Taking your coffee order at Merchant & Maker? Terrifying When we sat down to chat to Anna about her role within Merchant & Maker, it was hard to believe that she hadn’t worked in hospitality before. If you’ve ever been served by Anna, you’ll know she is as cool as a cucumber and as sweet as one can be when it comes to customer service. Before moving to Dunsborough from Copenhagen, Denmark, Anna worked within the asylum centre and shire to help facilitate connections between Danish residents and refugees. STEVE We’re talking fine dining, gourmet delicatessen, The Australian Embassy & then venturing out with another chef to create a business cooking high end food for a large consultant company in Copenhagen, Denmark, which then led to founding Wooden Spoon, a gourmet take-home meal company, that supplies supermarkets across Copenhagen and still exists today. We asked ANNA + STEVE what they love most about Merchant & Maker For ANNA, it’s the building of relationships within the team and community. She loves seeing locals and visitors alike, gathered around the tables, exchanging stories about their weekend or recommending a new local restaurant; as well as seeing staff engaging with customers, building relationships and having chats about the latest happenings around town. For STEVE, it’s being able to give a customer the best experience with everything Merchant & Maker has to offer From baking organic breads daily to working with the best coffee equipment and using local high-quality ingredients. Steve thrives on training new staff and sharing his knowledge, drawing on his many years of hospitality experience, to bring the best of everything together under one roof for customers and staff. What still surprises Steve is the realisation that Merchant & Maker is a shop that never sleeps, being open 365 days a year! Just like a constant heart beat
