23.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce MercyCare received honours at last night’s WA Mental Health Awards, following the launch of the Amber Youth Wellness program earlier this year. The Innovation and Change Award recognises MercyCare’s collaboration with young people, carers, medical practitioners and mental health experts while designing the service. The free program empowers young people, aged 12-25 years, with moderate to severe mental health needs to take control of their mental health. 22.01.2022 MercyCare had the pleasure of seeing Koolangka's Kreate perform for NAIDOC Week recently. Here they are at the NAIDOC Perth Ball, except this time they are joined by a four-year-old star in the marking who is a massive fan and wanted to dance with the older boys. He's certainly got the moves - what a talent!

21.01.2022 Today is White Ribbon Day. A time to raise awareness and commit to action to prevent men’s violence against women. Together with our partners, our Broome Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation is running a domestic violence campaign with information on family violence and supports available in the Broome area. The team will be participating in the March Against Family Violence in Broome on November 25 in remembrance of all who have lost their lives as a result of family violence. #WhiteRibbonDay #EndGenderedViolence @WhiteRibbonAustralia

21.01.2022 Dancing, music, artwork and a greater understanding of the history of NAIDOC came together to make NAIDOC 2020 celebrations at MercyCare Mirrabooka's office one to remember. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

21.01.2022 Have you heard about our Eco Warrior program? At each of MercyCare’s Early Learning Centres, our educators set out to engage children in a series of fun, educational eco-friendly activities that demonstrate how every little action can make a big difference. The idea was originally sparked by MercyCare Early Learning Manager Rosina Smith, whose son Tate began to show an interest in the environment by picking up rubbish during their regular walks to the park.... From recognising her son’s desire for a cleaner environment, Rosina realised there is great potential to share eco-conscious habits with other little minds across MercyCare’s Early Learning Centres. Since its conception, the Eco Warrior program has become a popular fixture at our centres, with children showing great enthusiasm in contributing to a cleaner, greener future. 17.01.2022 MercyCare's 2019/20 Annual Report is a snapshot of our successes. Along with these achievements you will see resilience. A celebration of our resilience and successes are the result of many parts. It is made up of our staff and volunteers’ work founded in our shared values; and of our clients we walk alongside to achieve their goals and aspirations. Our resilience and successes are also a reflection of this year’s Annual Report theme - Diversity and Inclusion. Our strength comes from embracing the diversity of our staff, volunteers and clients; of our services; and of the communities we work with and in. By working together, we are made stronger. 16.01.2022 What a talented bunch at MercyCare Joondalup Residential Aged Care Home. Led by the artistic talents of carer Dave, the Tree of Life mural is coming along beautifully. A big thank you to the residents, family members, staff and volunteers who have all been eager to join in putting their hand prints together to make the multicoloured leaves, bringing the mural to life!

15.01.2022 Taking a cue from Japanese culture, our Lifestyle, Therapy and Spirituality Coordinator Emma Chapman came up with a thoughtful idea for residents at MercyCare’s Wembley Residential Aged Care home. Out in the courtyard, Emma has created a ‘Wish Tree’ that is adorned with the decorative ‘wishes’ written by the residents. In Japan, the tradition of the ‘wish tree’ is at the heart of the annual Tanabata festival, which sees people celebrate by writing wishes on pieces of paper a...nd hanging them on beautifully decorated bamboo trees, which are a symbol of fruitful harvest in Japan. The decorative Wish Tree at Wembley has become popular among residents and is already adorned with wishes that vary from a frankfurter hot dog, to fish and chips with a cup of English Breakfast tea to soft-serve ice-cream and rekindling a love of sewing. We think this is a beautiful idea that helps our residents express their inner desires and reminds us that it’s the little things that matter most!

13.01.2022 Today is National Sorry Day. It is a day to reflect and acknowledge the pain and mistreatment that arose from the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities, which we now know as the Stolen Generations. As Australia continues to tread on the pathway to reconciliation, National Sorry Day offers the opportunity to reflect on the hurt, loss and trauma experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people while al...so fostering a better understanding of the continued impacts of intergenerational trauma. Watch this heartfelt story of Stolen Generations survivor Aunty Julie Black from Healing Foundation which illustrates the impacts of intergenerational trauma. #NationalSorryDay2021

12.01.2022 This week members of our Broome Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation attended the March Against Family Violence in Broome. While White Ribbon Day is over for the year, the messages that "Strong Men Protect Families" and "Stand up, Speak out" are for every day of the year. #WhiteRibbonDay #EndGenderedViolence @WhiteRibbonAustralia

07.01.2022 It’s such a pleasure to see this beautiful Indigenous artwork at the beginning of each day at the base of our Amber Youth Wellness outreach service. It is a warm reminder of our commitment to support young Indigenous people as they take steps to overcome their mental health struggles. The green behind each circle is a visual reminder that Amber Youth Wellness is always ready to help young people, whenever they feel ready to reach out. The central circle in this painting repre...sents the youth-led care that Amber delivers, while the five circles around it symbolise key principles of the service: person-centred; relationship focused; culturally strong; trauma-informed and risk responsive. The life journey of a young person is represented by the large black dots that trail from corner to corner of the painting and their journey to recovery is marked by the continuous wave design in the background. A big thanks to the talented artist Meena for encapsulating our work and values with such feeling. #alwayswasalwayswillbe
