20.01.2022 The voices of Melbourne’s West have been heard with the announcement that Werribee Mercy Hospital has been funded in the State Budget for the planning phase of a much-needed expansion. With the majority of Victoria’s population growth in the next five years forecast to be in Melbourne’s West, we are hopeful the plans lead to an expansion funding announcement before the next State election in 2022 to accommodate the communities' growing health needs. We are grateful that Trea...surer Tim Pallas has again acknowledged the needs of our community, Mercy Health Group CEO Adjunct Professor Stephen Cornelissen says. This is the first step towards urgently turning plans into a reality. Government, like us, will be keen to turn the expansion’s first sod at Werribee Mercy Hospital, so that Melbourne’s West will have local access to a more comprehensive range of specialist services that they both need and deserve. 16.01.2022 It wasn't just mums who were treated at Mercy Place Montrose on Mother's Day yesterday. Residents, visitors and staff were the beneficiaries of delicious baked treats from the home's annual Mother's Day cake stall. Residents also enjoyed a little gift from staff, which meant they could enjoy a nice cup of tea with their sweet treats. Hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day.

13.01.2022 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence starts TODAY! Did you know that one in three women worldwide will experience violence at some point in their lifetime? This global campaign, initiated by the United Nations, aims to end gender-based violence and raise awareness about the impact of violence against women. ... Mercy Health is committed to the health and wellbeing of women and will be holding a number of internal events and activities over the next fortnight to raise awareness among staff about this important issue.

13.01.2022 During National Children’s Week, we want to highlight the creativity of our own Mercy Health children. Earlier in the year, the children and grandchildren of Mercy Health employees were invited to participate in an internal ‘coronavirus art show’. Using paint, pencils and pixels, Mercy Health kids shared inspiring messages about hygiene and other ways to stay safe during the pandemic. As part of National Children’s Week, one of our young artists gave us permission to share this fantastic artwork.

12.01.2022 Last week, a group of Mercy Health managers participated in the inaugural Gender Equality Toolkit Workshop through our wonderful partnership with the Multicultural Centre for Women's Health. As a WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality, equipping our managers with tools to think and enact an intersectional approach to gender equality in the workplace is just one such outcome of Mercy Health’s Gender Equality Plan 2019-22. Thank you to the Office for Women for supporting us to bring this important work to fruition!

12.01.2022 Going global over three big nights in your lounge room is the theme of Mercy Perinatal’s Global Obstetrics Update for 2020 which gets underway at 7.30 this evening. The ‘virtual’ event enables a potential international audience to tune into some of the most eminent obstetricians, researchers and teachers from as far afield as Toronto and Philadelphia in North America, then on to Cape Town, South Africa prior to finishing in the UK on Friday night. Mercy Perinatal organisers w...ere ‘gutted’ earlier in the year when they realised that due to the coronavirus pandemic there was no option but to cancel the already ‘sold out’ Melbourne event. But just as quickly it was determined that technology provided a solution! Subject matter will range from what’s new in preterm births, an update on the latest evidence for fetal growth restriction and caesarean section, and Professor Lucy Chappell from King’s College in London will close the conference with an address on Renal failure in pregnancy. Professor Chappell’s speech also promises to summarise the current state of play in the RECOVERY trial for COVID-19 during pregnancy. Click on the link below for more details on each of the speakers and how you can ‘virtually’ attend any session of GOU 2020. bit.ly/3lK9AWr .

07.01.2022 Remembrance Day, like so many significant dates this year, will be marked in private, away from crowds, without the usual speeches and ceremony. Still, buglers around the country will play the Last Post across quiet streets and suburbs, commemorating the many men and women who have died, been injured or made sacrifices in times of war. Please join us for a minute of silence at 11am to remember those who fought and died for our freedom. #RemembranceDay #WeRememberThem

06.01.2022 After a 30-year career in obstetrics and gynaecology with Mercy Health, an unwavering commitment to women’s health and women-centred care, and decades as a mentor and peer leader, Dr Bernadette White has been honoured with the 2020 Catholic Health Australia Sister Marie Cunningham Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr White’s list of achievements over her career is as long as it is impressive. She recalls with fondness her role in starting Mercy Hospital for Women’s Family Birth Cen...tre in 1990, but it was her role as a mentor to so many others in her field that she considers her greatest achievement. My mentoring role is one of the biggest things I hope I achieved in my career mentoring other trainees. It’s just so satisfying to watch people start their career and go through their training with you, then for them to come back to the hospital as a valued consultant. That’s been very satisfying.
